Some of her movies are on today and Queen Bee starts at 2:30 eastern time. It is a great movie. I don't care for her as a person that she was but she was a good actress and she was pretty. Your thoughts?

Who really knows the truth about her personally? Her close friends and family and they have different opinions. She was a good actress who really fought hard for a career and achieved a lot. Unfortunately, a lot of people based their opinions of her on that dreadful movie "Mommie Dearest" based on her daughter's book which may be true or not. Joan also did a lot of charitable work. Was she an abusive mother? I don't know but I suspect, in Christina's case, she was.

Yes I did miss the first one started..........I am sure it won't be my last time........there are a lot to read........no one has to post here I am going to her thread. I just wanted people to watch Queen Bee if they have never seen it.........

Anyone Torch Song right now? They are doing a musical in black face....could not do that today! This movie is from 1953.

I watched her last night and earlier this week in the original ""The Women"" with Norma Shrearer. That one is my favorite.

Just finished watching Queen Bee for the first time. I did not know the ending and it was a surprise! I think Joan did a great job in that film. Now on to Autumn Leaves..... Getting nothing done today!

She was beautiful in her 20s. Wasn't she supposed to be the epitome of a flapper in the late 20s/early 30s? I remember liking her in The Women and Grand Hotel. Her looks were so harsh and creepy as she aged I find it hard to watch any of her later movies. Very Norma Desmond! Sorry, I know that sounds mean.

It is mostly the eye brows....very Lisa Robertson....creepy....

Most movies in the 1950's were made in black and white because color film was so expensive.

I never thought Joan Crawford was beautiful. She had very hard features and just looked mean to me. But I loved her movies. She had a big presence. Bette Davis was no beauty but she was such a star!! Her movies are great to revisit, especially "All About Eve".

Joan was beautiful when she was young, but her looks became harsher as she aged (I agree with the poster about her eyebrows). Very talented though. I cannot imagine it was easy for any actress in those days to balance a family and career (not that it is easy now). I am sure she had to project an image that was at times unkind in order to be as successful as she was.

It is mostly the eye brows....very Lisa Robertson....creepy....

I think Lisa R. is looking more and more like Joan Crawford as she's getting older.

She was a great actress...but as a person, not so much. I guess she had a hard life growing up.

I am always mezmerized by her eyebrows. LOL

She also had some very famous lovers...Kirk Douglas, Marlon Brando, among others. I guess she made the rounds of all the young studly actors in those days. LOL

Ha! I've been watching all the JC movies on TCM network. When she was younger she was attractive. DH and I could not figure out what the attraction was as she got older, (Queen Bee). I love her, though as I love all the movies from 'The Golden Age of Hollywood'. My absolute favorites were Robert Mitchum, and Elizabeth Taylor. Today's movie stars, as well as country music singers just don't have a clue.

I agree about the brows...what happened there? Who made this look? Her or a stylist...just curious cuz all these older actresses nowadays still look the same as they did back in the 70s and 80s...lol...lots of surgery, wigs, etc...i love joan and she is one of my faves...really enjoyed her movies today. She was so gorgeous in the movies she made in the 30s but she hardened in looks as she got older. Just wondering.
