Christmas Reflections 2024

As I handle this year's Christmas cards, I want to make an observation about the personalized photo cards. While I love getting cards and even more enjoy seeing family pictures, I get frustrated with the photo cards I get.....the cards are decent sized but they normally are made up of numerous small pictures, to the point where I can barely enjoy them. To be clear, i have very decent vision! I guess sender can't decide which picture or thinks more is better. any other observances?

I can certainly understand how unwelcome it can be, but I enjoy receiving cards with photos in any form from my friends or family.😊 My family is shrinking now due to age and/or illness, so each photo precious is sentimental to me!❤️

I was adding photos to an album this week, and several were photo cards! I smiled warmly as one was a photo card that contained several photos of my dear mother at a family event that I had long forgotten, and the floodgates opened up!😊

@Twins Mom Use a magnifying glass. No joke. Used one all my career to examine photos and slides back in the day.

I ƙnow what you mean. I guess they think they need a montage of photos to show what everyone has been up to during the year.

Kid #1 in his baseball uniform.

Kid #2 in her tutu.

Baby in her Halloween costume.

Parents on a cruise.

I'd rather have a nice family photo.

Another reflection is that having a list of potential gift ideas throughout the year really helps. Then keeping it updated as to purchase, recipient, cost, wrapped, etc kept me on target.

As I pulled out boxes of long-gone stores, I remembered fondly the days when boxes were offered. I reuse my boxes and am teaching kids how to wrap a nice box even though gift bags are so prevalent.

It's sad that Christmas wishes engender so many ill feelings. Part of the reason we quit sending anything.

Complaints about photo cards being sent, complaints about stores not offering boxes and bags being used now. Maybe it's time to stop "celebrating" the holiday if things are not up to your standards anymore.

This made me laugh. Also, it made me dig out my own "Glamor Shots" photo from the 70s!

I sure looked great except for the HUGE earrings the photographer insisted I wear.

Maybe I'll have some stationary or cards made with that photo

Then, again, maybe not.

Use a magnifying glass if you need to. At my age, I keep one around.

I understand what the OP is saying. I love getting the photo cards and I do agree one or two nice pictures would be lovely instead of a montage of tiny little squares. I think it ruins the whole aspect of it. My brother sends the best one with a yearly photo taken on Thanksgiving each year of him and his family, I love it.........whereas my cousin does the montage thing with the cat and the dog and the neighbor and the neighbors house, LOL!

Gracious, the word "complaint" might be a bit strong for my taste. ......hence the word reflection.

I like to think about what works and what does not as well as think about the past (sorry). I also remember "pressing" pieces of wrapping paper for next time, but I don't want to do that again.

Actually I like the photo cards and would love to send if I could be so lucky as to get everyone together for decent pic and figure out how to produce in a timely manner.

I do love getting the photo cards and have a few sent with the smaller pictures. I have one family, the Grandparents, their three sons, and now the adult children of the three sons, with their own children (the great grandchildren) who all send the large photograph and I just really like those better. This past Christmas card from the now Great Grandparents was the group shot at the alter of one of her granddaughter's wedding this past May. I have saved everyone of this family's Christmas photo cards since 1997.

I enjoy getting a card from the granddaughter with her family each year - luckily it is exactly the right size for a 4 by 6 frame ( she is a professional photographer so I guess she plans it that way).

As far as the small photos, I have found something even better than a traditiional magnifying glass - it is a lighted viewer that is sold to view stamps or coins - didn't cost much and is uses one AAA battery that lasts foever. It slides open and closed and is soooo handy - I bet it use it several times each day for something or other.

Totally agree....either do one nice large picture or maybe 3 tops-the small ones are too tiny too see and you literally need a magnifying glass.
