73 Years Ago…the Today Show

It was 73 years ago a "revolutionary new show" debuted called the Today show.

Dave Garroway was the host.

It debuted a year before I was born!

Just wow!

I watched the first Today show (I was 6 and we had one of the first t.v.'s in the neighborhood--Daddy was an electrical engineer and classic " early adapter ").

I would have been 4, going on 5 when it debuted. I remember it was always on in my house, my father loved it. I remember Dave Garroway so well, and the chimp, J. Fred Muggs.

The Today show was always part of my life, the TV was always on in the mornings, and it was how I got the first news of the day.

I continued to watch it all my life, but the last 5 or so years, I slowly became unable to watch it, for many reasons.

One thing that I found nervewracking was that they set up different interesting segments, with lots of visuals, and then they zip through it so quickly that you barely get to see anything. The presenters sometimes even seem surprised when their time is over. That happened on one occasion, several years back, and the presenter seemed awkwardly shocked.

I rarely bother to write to anything like a show, but it was so annoying to me, that I looked up on the website where to send an email, and I did. I suggested maybe they should slow down the pace, do fewer segments of that kind, but do them better. Of course, no response.

These shows have become too politically biased too, and I'm not a political person, but I just can't tolerate it.

So, no more Today show for me, and I was really a lifetime viewer.

I totally agree. I really hate it when there is a table full of products and they don't get to everything on the table. Sometimes it is because the hosts offere extraneous comments that takes up time away from the presentations, but they should be able to allow for that and allow more time for the segment. I also agree with its being politically biased now. I have emailed the show, but like you, didn't get a response. I don't watch as much as I used to.

It's my favorite morning show and I watch as much as I can every day.

Of course, Craig is doing a great job, as expected.

But I'm wondering about the absence of Sheinelle and if something is up with that.

On the third hour they still say "Sheinelle is off today" and her picture is used in the graphics.

But what surprised me most was that even if not present, she didn't even have a pre-recorded message on Hoda's farewell show.

I suspect it's a contractual issue given the shows reconfiguration and hope she and family are well.

I follow the show everyday and Sheinelle has been missing for approx a month. The 3rd hour of hosts say simply each day “Sheinelle is off today”. The most obvious 2 days I grew suspicious was Hoda’s last day last Friday and yesterday (Monday) when everyone congratulated Craig on the 3rd hour on the couch. It was glaring Sheinelle was no where to be found and made no appearance, or at the very least, leave a prerecorded message. More then likely, I bet she’s gone.

I agree.

They may need to mention her name per contractual obligation, but I bet she's gone.

Too bad, as I enjoyed her input and presence. She was fun and extremely pleasant.

Yes, @ They call me MR Wilkes..I agree w/ your comments..She was a lovely member of the 3rd hour group. I would never have thought there would be a shakeup like that. I could still be wrong, but I doubt it.
I remember Sheinelle when she was newer and just did the weekend show back w/ Craig. She worked very hard to get to where she was. Interesting turn of events all while Jenna has her own show on 4th hour now. SMH

She's a fine journalist, so if she's gone I'm sure she'll pop up somewhere else soon.

Look what happened to Tamron Hall: she was treated shabbily by NBC News and look at her success now!

I just think that they eliminated Sheinelle or whatever happened in a contract dispute.
@They call me MR Wilkes. Yes, I agree about Sheinelle landing on another channel and Tamron Hall success.

They could eliminate the 3rd hour and move "Jenna and Friends" into that timeslot.

Jenna is already now part of the first two hours doing Hoda's "Boost."

Seems very calculated to me. I hope Dylan stays somehow.
