Disposing of microwave

I read online that you cannot put a microwave or air fryer that no longer work into the trash.

Has anyone disposed of these things another way? Have both that we need

to get rid of....Need advice please!

My county has 1 day in June when there is an electronics recycling event. A dumpster is placed in an assigned location, and a group of people fill it with electronics brought to the site by citizens.

Go to the website of your “trash department” and it will have all the info on where and when.

My area has a designated electronics recycling day too. We just store any we may have in the corner of the garage and load them up and take them on the day of the event.

I agree with @bikerbabe, contact or look online, your local garbage collection department and see if they mention where to dispose of or recycle your items.

@CherryHugs, have you done a google search of "recycling near me" or checked your local county and state for recycling programs?

Checking with your trash removal provider as @bikerbabe said is also a great idea.

Most places have options in place. They aren't always free.

My county has a specific location for disposing of hazardous materials. Check your county's web site.

As others have suggested, check with your local refuse collector. In my county they offer different e-waste recycling at different locations through out the county. They usually start in the Spring and have them until the Fall every year. They do charge. You drive your car up and open the trunk and they take everything out and weight it. They have different rates for items.

My town has their second trash pickup of the week designated as bulk pick up. We have put out things such as our old sofa and dishwasher and they were removed without issue

When my Air Fryers stop working they will go in the trash. The City here doesn't make it very easy to recycle or dispose of things your not supposed to put in the trash.

We try to use their recycle center but it's not open during the hours they are supposed to be open. We got tired of driving over there to see nobody is ever there. If you leave things when nobdy is there they fine you?

We put everything in the trash even if we are not supposed to. We don't know what else to do with it. I blame The City for not having places to dispose of items they don't want us to put in the trash.

When we buy new appliances the place where we purchased it takes the old appliance to dispose of. I'm pretty sure they charge an amount to dispose of it.

Our county has several neighborhood landfills as well as the main one.

The neighborhood one I go to has a special shed for electronic items........anthing with a plug. I think the only thing they have started to charge for are televisions.

It also has a place for used oil, dumpster for paper/cardboard recycling, plastic recycling and glass recycling.

Last year they just started not charging county residents unless you have something like 6 bags or more of trash. Sticker for the vehlcle required. Even when they charged, it was only $.75 for a 13 gallon/large kitchen bag. The trash removal companies were charging $85/month.

We have electronics and paint recycling events in my area. There is one next Saturday. I have a broken shredder to take to it.

I save the round glass turntable plate.

Makes a great cutting board for veggies, etc.

Also use as an extra serving plate for cakes or cookies, etc. or a base for various decorations, etc.

Call you local sanitation service / company. Never had an issue disposting of things no mater where I lived.

I'm in calif and our trash is highly regulated. There are certain times of the year we can go free to dump That's it. We can go to dump all year, lol but it costs a LOT to use dump. Geesh they want 50 bux to dump a toilet. There are City programss though. If your looking for a free option call your trash company, or City.

If jurisdictions all want us to do the right thing then first, make sure we know what it is and second don't make it a challenge to do. Otherwise, right or wrong, all my refuse is going in the dumpster.

I buy a city garbage sticker at the grocery store, put it on the microwave, call city garbage collection for a pick-up, and put the old microwave on the curb. A special truck picks it up on my regular collection day.
