Did you have a class in school, that you had to take, that really was a waste of time?

Totally, I still believe Science class was a total waste of time back in Jr. High. I've never needed it, nor have I ever wanted it.

I wish I was smart enough, to have something hit and lead me on to a medical career and on to discover how to beat cancer. I hope it takes control of some bright mind and finds us a cure for cancer and many other diseases.

I'm sure I won't be the only one with this answer, Algebra.

I was terrible at it, barely passed the year even with the help of a tutor and never once in my life have I ever said boy that Algebra class sure did come in handy today.

Actually, I think home economics was a waste.....basically sewing and cooking.

The class that I ended up using the most from was 11th grade Algebra........and funny part is that I'm friends w/the teacher on FB. Small rural school with 107 in my graduating class. Never realized it at the time, but she wasn't much older than me.

I fear the gentleman who taught my Art class viewed my time there as wasted. But it did teach me that I am sorely lacking when it comes to the visual arts. The best I could do was a papier-mache pig sculpture. Even then, I had to tell people what it was that I had tried to make.

I could sew pretty well before going to high school but a "Clothing" stupid name class in a school of 75 girls only was hideous, teacher was awful.

She gave me a very low grade on a dress I made, and said in her critique:

"This is a waste of my time, your time and material."

Haha I'll never forget that line!

And same as @cindyNC I loved Algebra and even took a 5 unit Algebra class in college as I had to for nursing school.

Use it every day and @Kachina624 I'm thinking most of us use it regularly but don't know it.

Ratios, percentages, cost comparisons. More interesting to me than geometry but we use that all the time too.

Home economics teaches you a lot of useful skills for living. Cooking vs. take-out. Mending vs. throw away clothes.

Algebra is another skill that everyone uses. Especially shopping

During shopping trips, algebra comes in handy when calculating discounts, comparing prices, or determining final costs after tax.

On the first day of class, our English professor told us that, if we didn't approach the course as if it were a math class, we would have difficulty with it.

From that moment on, the class was my enemy.

Hated History and my behind was thrown out of class because the teacher caught me with my big History book open but inside was my copy of Jane Eyre; was reading that instead of listening to the droning of the teacher.

@ahoymate. I can do all the things you mention without using algebra, just plain old math. I couldn't possibly be using algebra since I know zip about it despite having passed Algebra I, due to mom's constant presence with the teacher.

I was, however, the "Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow" winner at my school one year. If old Betty could see my homemaking today, she'd be so appalled she'd jump right off that cake mix box.

physical Ed. I have never been athletic, didn't want to be. Making us climb ropes, learn balance beam and uneven parallel bars routines, play softball, only served to stress me out. Also I had knees with a congenital problem that caused spontaneous dislocation. Couldn't run, was terrified on the balance beam.

I was Betty Crocker homemaker of the year my senior year in high school. LOL

I guess I would say the Gym Class. I hated it so much only because our teacher liked certain students and not others. I remember hurting my leg when we were vaulting over the horse. We also had to take the Presidential Physical Fitness Exam which I hated and failed every year. I would have liked Gym class if we played things like volleyball etc.

I really think the problem was that I did not like the teacher.

I did very well in science, all types of math, chemistry, biology. I ended up become a RN and use Algebra and Science daily in my life.

I also disliked English, sentences. When I was in 1st grade, the teacher found that I could not read. I had to have tutoring from my Grandmother, who was an English Teacher.

She and my father taught me how to read. I never felt confident in my ability with English.

Even this day, and I am 66 years old, my sister corrects my pronunciation. I remind her that I have a learning disability, and it no longer matters. Also, that I have 2 Masters Degrees and found a profession that I do not have to write in complete sentences for.

Doctors and nurses, do not document in complete sentences (just in case anyone does not know that.)

Despite my learning disability, I excel at Math, Science, and scored in the 97% tile in the country for Mechanical ability. I have a unique talent for knowing how things should be put together, fit through a door etc. I also excel at computer skills and have spent some of my nursing career teaching new nurses the computerize documentation system.

I made it all work for me.
