Are You a Classical Music Fan?

Are a lover of classical music? We listen to it a lot--but along with rock, jazz, and lots of other genres.

We often listen to classical guitar, piano, symphonic and some opera selections (not often an entire opera).

Are you a fan? Do you have favorites you would like to share? I just thought this might be a fun topic.

I am a huge fan of Vivaldi's Four Seasons...all of it.

I can' t listen to it in my car, though. It makes me drive too fast. I get so lost in the music.

My son plays classical guitar...like that too.

I like all music, but what I find amazing is my country boy husband really likes classical music he says it just makes him feel so relaxed. He will listen to it with his headphones when cutting grass....you would have to know my husband to know why it amazes me....but I love it and him. His friends get a big kick out of it too.

Yes big fan of classical. Grew up with it & we had a piano both my sister & I took lessons.

Passacaglia is my current favorite & I would love to learn how to play it.

I like many different kinds of music, Folk, Blues, Bluegrass, Rock,Funk, New Age, Gregorian Chant, Irish, Italian (Andrea Bocelli), Greek, Middle Eastern, Reggae,Jazz, Oldies, Motown DoWop. I don't care for Rap or Country.

I also enjoy some Classical music, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and Swan Lake. I like Vivaldi's Four Seasons and at our wedding my music choices were Vivaldi's Spring, Pachelbel's Canon in D, Ave Maria and Paul Stookey's Wedding Song.

My mom was a classical violinist, and we had classical music playing constantly in our home. I had little interest in listening to the popular genre even as a teen. Certainly not today. I enjoy Celtic folk music, old style C&W, some "elevator" music types but nothing jarring.

I like Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and I love Bach's Chamber music. I also like West Coast Jazz (Jerry Mulligan, Paul Desmond) and I love gospel music and contemporary classical. I did like Rock music when I was a teen and I probably still would but nobody does rock any longer. It's all that nasty stuff about b*tc*es and *hose. Now that I am losing my hearing, music is not something I could learn to like as far as another genre. So I like what I have always liked.

I love hearing your choices and experiences.

My husband plays guitar, classical and rock, knows hundreds of songs, and I had 11 years of classical piano lessons, all aimed at a college major, which of course I didn't do. But I love playing! I love listening to many types of piano music. Except that "New Age" piano pieces that meander around and goes nowhere.

So we do listen to a lot of piano and classical guitar. I remember hearing piano from a cd and good speakers for the first time and could have cried for joy. It was as the piano was in the room. The Year of the Cat was my first digital recording experience! Amazing!

I also learned to love a lot of hillbilly and bluegrass late in life. Osborne Brothers doing Rocky Top is one example, and some of the banjo (at heart don't like the banjo, but appreciate a lot of the phenomenal playing). Also like "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and the Allman Brothers and such!

I have a professional musician child so there was a lot of music going on in my house. I also had a sax player and trombone player. the professional musician is a percussionist which includes piano, which is a percussion instrument.

Check out Don Williams' version of Louisiana Saturday Night for some great fiddle playin' and rockabilly.

Yes, WFMT, the classical music station in Chicago is all I listen to. When I was a teenager/20s, I listened to rock and roll. Then listen to country western music. I have now switched to classical which I find so soothing and relaxing.

Favorites Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.

Years ago there was a TV commercial with British actor John Williams that advertised classical music albums. This ad ran for years. The first song in the commercial was Borodin's Polovtsian Dance Number 2. Haha, fun. You can view it on youtube.

When I was a kid, since my dad favored opera, that was all I ever heard. Eventually I was able to discern different artists. Wonderful sounds to live with.

It's a toss up between Classical (1750-1820) and Baroque (1600-1750). It's from all those piano lessons from decades ago. And me, too, having lived (and liked) the rock & roll craze.

This is what I teach today. Dates are always on the tests.
