Old Department Stores gone now

Anyone remember some of the old department stores no longer in business ? A few here in Mo were Venture, Sears Roebuck, Stix Baer and Fuller ( I believe it became Dillards) Woolworth. We often shopped Venture, it was one of our favorites.

I remember Sears and Kmart, Burdines and also Woolworth's too.

Famous Barr in Missouri which is now Macy's

Not a department store, but Ben Franklin 5&10

Here in PA as a kid I can remember Grant's, Hills, Ames, Gee Bee, Pomeroy's,

Hess's, Kmart, those are the first stores that come to mind.

Always loved the soft pretzels and slushies at Hills at the entrance to the store,

Slushies were cherry or coke or a combo.

I forgot about Kmart and Ben Franklin Stores. We had a Ben Franklin store in the small shopping mall across from the top of the street we lived on as kids. We could walk up the street, cross at the stoplight and walk across the parking lot to Ben Franklin. It was one of our favorite stores, they had all sorts of toys, games and a bit of everything including favorite candies ! Thanks for the memories ! Kmart was also a big favorite

@ahoymate There is still a Gumps in SF - or did you mean a specific store in another location?

I just read this morning Lord and Taylor is coming back. I don't remember who bought the name or if it even will be anything like the old L&T. We'll see.

@Neetgal2 -- I grew up in Philly (and still live in the Philly suburbs) and always shopped those stores. I worked at Strawbridge's for awhile.

Yes, I live here. It's a tiny, tiny store. It used to be a dept. store.
