What do you think is the difference between HSN & QVC?

I'm talking more about hosts/presentations...

I know that HSN & QVC have differences & similarities across the board. For example, some brands are the same between HSN & QVC yet offer different products.

Why do I ask?

Well, as for myself, I rarely watch HSN. I think over the past 20 years I ordered 8-10 items in total. They were all good products and still use most of them today.

However, I never seem to want to watch HSN anymore than I have to...and only when QVC has absolutely nothing I'm interested in for a particular day/days or even a week sometimes and there is nothing on youtube or a movie/show I want to watch.

In other words, when I watch HSN, it is the last resort on watching something on TV. Most times I find other things to keep me occupied...reading a book, working in our yards, etc.

I know there are those that feel the exact opposite as myself...much preferring HSN over QVC...and many are somewhere inbetween.

All these years I can't seem to put my finger as to why I feel the way I do though... *shrugs*

Anyone have any guesses/thoughts as to why you prefer one shopping channel over another?

WACKY clothing sizing on ALL TV shopping networks. I have to shop in a B&M store...and use a TAPE MEASURE to make sure the item fits.

I'll only speak for myself, but I find HSN hosts are more professional and straitlaced with their presentations which, for me, makes them less personable.

Other than two I can think of, I like a sense of humor and a relaxed vibe and that's usually not them.

Two approaches to selling which apparently work for different consumers.

I also like the product lines/variety better on QVC. Other than Beekman and AL, I rarely watch HSN at all.

I always thought HSN lacked in clothing style, and some seem tasteless and can look cheap. I don't feel the same way with QVC except for a couple of lines. The jewelry on HSN does not have the same quality as QVC. Since I have been a Q watcher for years, it is still hard for me to get comfy with the HSN hosts, but both can have hosts that seem a bit phony. Just my opinion. I do check out HSN while channel surfing.

@Susan Louise For me, I think it originated from when HSN and QVC started. Back in the day, HSN had some, dare I say, junky dollar store stuff. I can remember my sister-in-law buying a 'Special' something like 4 or 5 pieces of soft-sided luggage for something like $25. When she received it, it was not worth $5.

Also, at the time and for a very long time after, HSN and QVC were rivals, and I think QVC might have offered a little better quality in their items and didn't spend an hour or more explaining each item. Remember how long it would take them to move on to another item?

For me, I guess it was that previous experience and exposure to HSN that left an everlasting impression.

I too started with HSN, back in the day that one had to call in to buy the item on the air, and it was only available while the item was on the air.
I then defected to QVC, but now . . . I think I watch and shop with HSN moreso. I should say, I do NOT buy fashion from either very often. I don't trust the value unless I trust the designer. I'm pretty much limited to Dennis Basso these days.

I shop from both HSN & QVC. I like HSN as I feel the hosts are much more professional and they don't play those stupid games like on QVC. Also I feel there is more variety on HSN, i.e. I love Curtis Stone cookware. Once they show an item and it sells out very rarely do you see the same item repeated. Susan Graver shows many items that I bought 5 or more years ago. There is no ridiculous screaming, dancing, talking about their personal lives, etc., etc. I am tired of the loud and obnoxious behavior of Dennis Basso and a few others. That being said, I still love QVC for beauty products, kitchen, and some clothing lines. I shop both for over 30 years, but I am liking HSN more and more.

I also will check out qvc first and then check out hsn. The hosts at hsn are definitely more professional and more informative. Hsn hosts don't go on on about their personal life.

Back in the early 90s when I first started watching QVC on cable, I think HSN was not on the lineup? Could be wrong about that? Anyway my habit was set.

Like several of you I started with HSN then went over to the Q........many years of back and forth but honestly I do prefer HSN, Colleen Lopez is my absolute favorite host to watch but there are also a few others that I like. HSN has actually been on longer than the Q and IMO both channels have their decent lines and not so decent lines. I happen to really like many of their clothing designers, some have very nice quality, especially Iman. I do agree that the HSN hosts seem a bit more polished but they still laugh and have fun during their shows.

I don't watch HSN ever. The host presentations seem impersonal; cut and dry. For me, the quality is much better on QVC than HSN. Also, I stopped buying on HSN when I had an absolute tyrant Customer Service rep who seemed to chastise me. So, that was it for HSN and me.

I think there is a difference--HSN doesn't seem to be so silly and over the top like QVC--Sure there is some funny bits but not like at QVC. But I definitely think the Q has HSN beat as far as the info on most of the items they sell---one example was when I was buying the Ninja outdoor grill---my favorite of all time purchase, BTW-----I got it from HSN--better price at the time--and the HSN hosts never gave much pertinent info about it at all--so I went the QVC and listen and read so much more info on it. And there's been a few other times and products as well. And what the hosts say--well they all say the usual dumb remarks-- all to sell. sell, sell. I mostly chuckle at that and don't rely on that salesman drivel.

@Susan Louise I don't know why but I feel the same way about HSN. I also have only purchased maybe two handfuls of items over the years there but they were nice things.

Last night it was very cold here and I had purchased an Iman faux fur coat last year and wore it last night when we went out to dinner. I got nice compliments on the coat.

Yet I purchase thousands of $$ worth of items here. I just like the Q better. I don't even know who the hosts are on HSN.

I have also noticed a very subtle but weird difference in the sound....I know it sounds strange and I can't put my finger on it. When the hosts speak on HSN it seems like a very vague echo or something going on. Maybe it's the way their studio is set up.

@Susan Louise i feel exactly as you do. I prefer QVC over HSN to watch.

I find their audio inferior. The video quality inferior. Their hosts do not appeal to me except Suzanne Runyeon and Amy Morrison. Their sets are boring etc etc. The product lines seem to lower quality except for the QVC duplicates, but the presentations for those are inferior too.

Quality. I did try DG jeans years ago & quality was horrible & the dye stained my legs. Jay King jewelry is unimaginative & cheesy. Years ago HSN had some products that were interesting & good quality like Story Book Knits & Jeffrey Banks. Today, not so much

Variety of products

Maybe the hosts annoy some on QVC but I find HSN hosts boring and not as informative & some look terrible in clothing they are selling. I know Colleen is popular but I find her taste & offerings rather gaudy

The sets appear nicer to me on QVC

I don’t watch HSN regularly but will tune in occasionally but mostly during the holidays but not this year.

I have not made a Q purchase in over 12 years, but I shop on HSN all the time, they send me coupons, have great sale prices and clearance, free shipping, and I am very happy with their brands.
