Becorn Baby

This is a baby Becorn, being watched over by little bird.

I made this little baby using acorns and pine twigs. It is based

on the little Becorns created by David M. Bird.

David has 20 videos on youtube, of his Becorns which are little people made from acorns. He photographs them having adventures with birds, squirrels and chipmunks.

He sells calendars and his art featuring Becorns. He has been featured on TV on CBS, showing his process and his art.

My daughter loves Becorns and I made this to surprise her for Christmas. I also bought the Becorn calendar for her.

From the oak and pine trees in my yard, I made the little baby and the cradle is pine bark. The cradle is lined with feathers and is resting on preserved moss. The little berries,

fern frond seeds and tiny oak leaves were also found in my yard. The little bird and the log slice base were purchased at the craft store.

At this time, I have geranium leaves soaking in a gylcerin

solution to preserve them and one of them, I may use as a little

blanket for the Becorn baby.

My daughter told me about the Becorn videos on youtube and doesn't even know that I looked at them, so she will be very surprised when she opens her gift and sees what I made.

@Enufstuff Way to go, Donna!!!🙌🏆 You made my day with this post!!! I knew that you would do such a great job when you described your Becorn Baby ideas to me 😀🙌💯💖. This is absolutely adorable and so well done- I love the tiny little legs, the face, the acorn hat, and the little acorn body with the tiny twig baby arms. The pine bark cradle is perfect with the natural curvature of the bark- love the feathers that the Becorn Baby is lying on 💖🤗. The moss really makes the Becorn Baby shine with such a vibrant pop of color. The little bird is such a cute touch. Love the wood slab base. The little berries, fernwood seeds and oak leaves add detail and depth to the background.

This is going to make your daughter so thrilled- such a thoughtful and well crafted Becorn baby scene! The Becorn calendar is a very nice add on gift too. What I thought would be an easy project, took a few

days to complete after a few glitches. After getting all the materials assembled, I left the room and when I came back, I heard a crunch under my foot.

I didn't realize that the pine bark cradle had fallen to the floor and I stepped on it. I spent that first day, fitting all the pieces together like a puzzle and gluing them back together.

Then, when I attached the legs they would not stick

to the acorn. Apparently the pine twig was not dryed out and when I cut the legs, there was sap, prevented the glue to adhere. I dried them for a day and tried again, no luck. The next day after that, it took two more tries before the legs would adhere.

David drills holes in the acorns and inserts the legs. I don't have a Dremel tool, to drill tiny holes. I have always used Tacky Glue in all my craft projects, with good luck. I never considered the fact that pine sap would be a problem. In the end, it finally worked.

Anyway, I was glad to complete this project and I hope that my daughter will enjoy her baby Becorn.

@Enufstuff You're welcome 🤗💖. I like that you're cool under pressure and you can roll with the punches in an arts and crafts project! I would've yelled in frustration if I were to accidentally step on that pine bark baby cradle 😅. That's amazing that you fit the broken cradle back together with glue- I would've never known that it was broken based on the photos. The pine sap must've been such a curve ball after taking the time to properly dry out the baby pine twig legs! I imagine you with a pair of tweezers pressing those little legs into the acorn and waiting for the glue to partially set. Amazing work and great display of patience in putting this Becorn baby scene together 😁💗💖.

Thank you so much. It seems that you have come to know my style well and discovered my secret. Now that I am retired, I have the time to imagine things to create a little fantasy world. I have always loved creating things since I was a young child. I believed in Fairies and all things magical and I loved my dolls. Learning sewing, painting and many kinds of arts and crafts, opened a whole world of things to create.

I think that after the past several years and how this world has become, we all need a little occasional escape from reality that has become a little too real. Back in the 60's, this is not the world that we imagined our future world to become. We were so idealistic and optimistic back then.

Now, we can only make the best of each day, in our little corner of the world. I do try to see the glass half full and am grateful for my family and what we have. There is much beauty to see in the world, if we take the time to look.

I'm having fun in my old age and I love sharing my creations

and bringing a smile to the ladies here.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's I had a little gift shop with all kinds of things that I and two of my aunts made.

There were some items similar to this, but I didn't make acorn people. I made miniature nature scenes on wood slices and in brandy snifters or other glass containers. On driftwood, I made scenes with seashells , little seagulls, seaweed and dried flowers.

Then my shop morphed into an antique shop.

It was fun having that little shop. I wish that I still had it. My grown daughters are talented artists and we could fill a shop with things to sell.
