Thank you cards

I gave a pair of Pearl earring's to the girl in the next building for her first Holy Communion, which was back in early May, its now December and no thank you card has been received as yet.

Are they out of style, am I stuck in the 1980's. Just curious

@I am still oxox. The younger generation isn't big on thank you notes even for significant wedding gifts sent by mail.

If you gave them in person and she thanked you at the time, she probably felt that was adequate. I have to agree.

Very few ever, ever acknowledge receiving the gift let alone sending a thank you note.

If they can't send or hand deliver a written thank you card, they're impolite, lack manners and don't deserve a gift.

@I am still oxox I never gift anyone expecting a Thank You. However, if I send something by mail I do appreciate some form of communication that the gift was received.

Manners aren't taught so much anymore. It's too bad.

I remember having to write thank you cards in school for practice. Now it's not taught in school or at home.

Surprisingly, every once in a while I get a thank you and it always makes me smile and feel appreciated.

My sister passed last month. Within a week, my younger sister and I wrote thank you's to everyone for the flowers, cards, mass cards and donations made in her name, and also thanked the pastor for a lovely service.

It only took us about two hours and I was glad to get it over with.

It was appreciated when the address of the giver was on the cards. It is a pain when you can't find where to send the thank you...or don't personally know the person who gave the gift.

There are hundreds of people named Mary Jones and Tom Murphy who used to work with the deceased years ago. So, which address is the correct one?

It's become common that thank you cards are seldom sent and even more reason to be the one who sends them.

It will not be forgotten by the recipient.

Last wedding I went to said their thank you's on Facebook. It's a sign of the times I guess but us not being on FB never got a thank you for our lovely gift, oh well.

Did she thank you personally? Did she call or send an email to say thank you? If so then you got your thank you, a card or note would not be necessary. Yes, people send thank you notes or cards but they also send emails and group texts now. What matters is that the recipient extend their appreciation for a gift. In this case, the mom should sure her daughter thanked you.

I accept any form of appreciation, including phone calls, emails and the preferred short note. I wrestle with how to handle this with young people, including one teenager who always thanks me, in one note at the end of January, for both her November birthday gift and her Christmas gift. I guess I am lucky that only rarely have gifts to adults gone unacknowledged. ,,

My boss' wife came up to the office over the weekend and left a note on my desk. They had a Widow Ladies luncheon at their church so she left me some croissant's and chicken salad in our fridge. I sent her a Thank you Text this morning. It is just good manners to acknowledge some way or another.

Now her youngest daughter got married in May of this year and I have still not received a thank you card for my gift. The oldest daughter jumped right on the thank you cards when she married 10 years ago.

People are rude.

Went to a family member's funeral a few years ago and left a sympathy

card there among the other cards. Inside my card was a generous check

to the requested charity.

Weeks and months passed. Of course the check went where it was made

out too and never got a thank you at all. Won't forget it either.

Some people haven't been raised to thank people for gifts.

If I receive a thank you in person, I don't expect a thank you note.

Keep in mind that I love to write thank you notes.

From when I was a small child, I loved to write them to relatives who lived near and far.

From what she told me, my mom encouraged me to 'sign' (scribble) my signature when I was a toddler.

Oh, well.......times have changed.

My mother took care of thank yous til we were around 10 (if a girl) or around 12 (if a boy). I was in a large family.

She coached us on how to thank people for gifts. i have to admit, though, that I usually now send an email thanks, followed up by a phone call. Where I am temporarily living right now, it is almost impossible to find a post office, for one thing.

I do explain this to people I am thanking.
