California Earthquake

Just on the noon new, earthquake about 200 miles north of San Francisco. It was very shallow and now San Francisco is under Tsumani warning. This could be very serious!

Does anyone in the area have additional information?

12:58pm. They just announced Tsumani warning was canceled. Thank God!

I hope everything will be okay. Whenever I have visited that area, I was always nervous.

One of these days....makes me shudder. That area is over a major fault line.

I was in Thailand not too long after they had a tsunami in 2004. Young Prince Poom Jensen was killed while on a jet ski.

When I visited the palace, they had his casket there for mourners to pay their respects. We were not allowed to stand up and had to bend while walking to be in that room. We were not allowed to be taller than the casket.

If you wanted to get close ( I didn't) you had to crawl on your knees or squat down and walk in the position to get beyond a certain point.

Those tsunamis are dangerous and cause a lot of destruction. I hope I never see or hear of one again.

Now being reported as a 7.0 off the coast, very shallow quake. Tsunami warning all along the coast. Telling people get away from the coasts, don't go sightseeing, no fishing, that kind of thing. Lots of coverage and conflicting info. Quite a few mandatory evacuations.

I live in the SF Bay Area. Tsunami warning came throughh to go to higher ground. High waves should hit around 12:15pm. My DD lives on an island in the SF Bay and she has left her home for higher ground. I live about 2 blocks from the SF Bay, just south of my DD, and will leave if necessary. The shaking, in my area, was slight. However, people in SF felt it stronger. The earthquake was about 45 miles south of Eureka and about 240 miles north of me. I am just south of Oakland, CA so not far from SF. The quake was offshore which makes the Tsunami more probable, hence all the warnings and phone alarms. 7.0 is a major earthquake - it's big and it's scary. I was here for the '89 earthquake and that was a 7.1.

It was just announced on the news that the Tsunami warning as been rescinded. Whew!

@JudyL Thank you for checking in on me, JudyL💗! I'm ok in San Francisco- I felt it a little, but it wasn't too bad. I was so busy baking gingerbread and doing chores that I didn't notice it too much. How are you? Did you feel it? I hope you're doing well 😊💗! I'm located far from the beach, but I hope that the people in the Sunset district and the Marina aren't effected by any high waves that could potentially happen. I'm thinking good thoughts for everyone effected by the earthquake. 🙏

My aunt and uncle are in the san fran area and they have someone watching their cat in their house while away. The cat sitter said he didn't feel anything.

So it seems the earthquake was farther north about 200 miles from the San Francisco area.

Reported by the US geological survey the epicenter was offshore in Cape Mendocino and Petrolia in Humbolt cty. That most of the shaking was offshore is good news

and hopefully not as much dammage as feared.

I'm glad that you are safe and that there was no Tsunami. An event like that is so scary and destructive.

I don't think that I could ever relax, living in California. Just

the thought of an earthquake is so frightening. Let's just hope and pray that there are none happening in the future that cause devastation as some have in the past. I hope that all are safe from this recent event.

We are near a fault line on the east coast and have had a couple of very minor earthquakes. I hope that we never experience anything serious.

We get an occasional hurricane, but nothing like the southern states. Any extreme weather conditions and storms are scary.

Again, I'm glad that you are safe, sweet girl.

@Enufstuff Thank you for your kind words and concern, Donna 💗! It is interesting to be born and raised in San Francisco. I was one year old when the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake that caused millions and millions of dollars of damage and killed 63 Bay Area residents. San Francisco had a ton of damage and my parents set up a tent that night on 10/17/1989 in the backyard and they slept in the tent with my big sister and myself. My big sister was almost 3 and I had recently turned 1. My parents said that I kept squirming down to the bottom of the blankets in the tent and that they had to keep scooping me up into their arms or next to them throughout the night. My parents house wasn't damaged, but many other houses in San Francisco were damaged. Earthquakes can be very destructive and scary.

I've felt little earthquakes here and there throughout my life, and one time I was sitting in a chair and the chair swayed back and forth and I almost fell out of it during an earthquake. I'm glad that you've only had small earthquakes where you live near Boston. I also hope that you never experience any severe earthquakes, sweet Donna! 💖

I live in So Ca or Central as some see it. Didn't feel anything. I live about 1 mile from a tsunami flood plain and not too far off is a militry base which would be compromised with any incoming hostile fire.

Okay I feel old now! I was at work when that happened! I was 28. It was so scary and horrible. I had a coworker that took the evening off, we worked swing shift, to go to a giants game. This was before cell phones but she finally got to a phone and let me know she was okay. I was talking on the phone to a customer and felt dizzy when it happened, I'm 90 miles from SF.

I went through two big earthquackes One in SF. Was working in a tall building on Market street and it was scarey. The other was when the bridge collapse. I think it was in 1986, not sure, was horrible.

I now live in Northern Ca and got an alert on my phone. I was talking at the time to my sister in Washington and we wonder why I was getting an alert.

Didn't feel anything. It was up north in Eureka. The town of Ferndale got the worse of it, but nothing real divestating. Couple houses had the foundation shift and a few shops had broken bottes off the shelves.

Ferndale is such a cute little town. Than goodness it was not real bad for those folks.

I live in Southern California so of course I did not feel the earthquake. We have multiple earthquakes a day in California some are felt many others are not.

I joke around that I do not even think about moving for less than a 5.0.

However, a 7.0 is a big earthquake, so glad that it was not in a more populated area. That would have caused extreme damage and loss of life, if it would have hit San Francisco or Los Angeles.
