I'm a list person, and when I write up my list, I try to do it according to the layout. Now, our store has been updated. While it's nice, we're all still getting use to it.

Back to the list. As we gather the groceries off the shelf, I turn the paper over and keep going, till we get it all. (This is not counting what falls into the basket, as we pass). Then when I return the cart, (we use two, I like the help for my back), I throw the list away. One and done.

How do you write up your list?

I order groceries for pick-up from Wal-Mart so no list is needed. I menu plan a week at a time. I go through the recipes and add what's needed to my cart. Stand alone items are added as I run out of them. For meats or produce I want to purchase at a local store, I just write on a notepad what I want in no certain order, because there will only be a half dozen items, and they're in the produce or meat department.

I'm lucky to have three stores relatively close by so I have options.

I also get the paper circulars delivered a few days before the sales start so I can compare prices and sales. Some stores preview it online a day before but I like being able to decide if I want to wait till next week or go back " This week" since there is more of what I'd want on sale vs "Next week".

I make 3 columns on paper, one for each store, and write what looks good at each one.

When I make the rounds I cross off each item as I put it in the cart.

I actually prefer to to make my list by shopping online. If I go to the grocery store, I open my online basket and shop from it.

My favorite store is now too expensive. They brag about new lower prices but they are still $1 to $4 more per item than other stores. I shop their sales if the sale price is lower than other stores.

A midwest chain is well known for superb meat at fair prices so that's where I get meat when I buy it. Their produce and deli are excellent. They are smaller stores but have whatever I want. All their prices are lower than other stores.

Things I use every week go on my mental list: fruit, nuts...

As soon as I use something up, I write it down on a note paper: spice, tissues...

I also write things down if I'm preparing a certain dish and need those extra ingredients.

Once an item hits the grocery cart, I make a little tear next to the item on my list, making sure everything is covered.

I'm a list person, too - and not just for groceries. I've been making grocery lists since we got married 48 years ago. I kept doing it throughout the years because it helped save time. First, I check the new digital coupons to see if I want to clip any, then I check out the ones I've already clipped. Next, I plan our menu for the week. Finally, I compose my list with the items I need for the week's meals, items on the shopping list on the fridge and items for coupons that expire soon. Some people think this is ******, but it works for me.

I do Walmart Grocery pickup. No need for lists and I generally start the next order as soon as I get home from picking up the current one. I just add things as I think of them. This works best for me.

When I kept lists on paper and went into stores, I would always get to the store to realize the list was still sitting on the kitchen counter. Once smart phones came into my life I always kept my list there. I too am a list person, only because if I don't I will have forgotten something.
