Email From Apple Store

I got an email today supposedly from the Apple Pay Store about my Apple Pay account. They said my account has been suspended because an unauthorized person was trying to access my account. There was a link to click on that I needed to use within 48 hours to I suppose reset my account. I am suspicious by nature, I went to my account on my own and there doesn't seem to be a problem, I'm thinking it's a scam, what do you think?

SCAM. if in doubt call the number on the back of the card and talk to customer service. Never click on unknown links.

i definitely think its a scam.

on the email, click where is says "from". that is usually a bunch of nonsense.

good that u checked your account on your own!!

i had it happen to me from Amazon, Paypal, and netflix. i send the email to them so they can track/fix it. most have a phishing email you can send it to.

Never click on a link from an email. Go to your account and log in securely to check your account. It is most likely a scam email.

I feel sorry for people who don't know any better and fall prey to these scams. It is actually worse during the holidays, scamming people for money.

I get strange text messages from supposedly the USPS trying to deliver a package, but they need more information. I never click on the link.

So many scammers out there. Awful.

All you have to do is hover over the from section (sometimes you have to click it), and you will be able to see the email address from which it was sent. That will tell you if it's legit or not. If it appears to be legit, then go to the actual website to check it out.

There are always giveaways with phrasing and punctuation, like the "to give fake identity", or the lack of capital "I" to start the sentence "if you" and using "did not" instead of "do not" in "did not verify within 48 hours". The second also said "w⁭ith‎in 48 hou឴r" instead of "48 hours".

You can tell it's composed by someone who might not speak English very well, but think they have it down pat.

I wish we could squish these losers somehow! Apple has a spam report service at reportphishing at apple dot com to forward them to. I bet they are slammed right about now!

Don't click on any links.

I have received many such emails.

I can usually see the sender's actual email address by right clicking on the sender's name. If the email address doesn't end in apple.com it's a fake for sure.

@San Antonio Gal I get lots of these too. ignore. Elon Musk is now sending me emails now. I don't think it's really him, so I just delete.

I also get emails from Sam's and Costco. I am not a member so I just delete, but those who are and read them, check the sender's email address and don't click any links.

Gutter companies (I have none), hair loss, hemp, all scammers. I just delete.

Anything that is offering a deal from a company I never signed up with.

I just delete.

@Jordan2 - I get emails and texts like this all of the time. The first time I got an email I wasn't sure about I called Amazon. Something just didn't look right.

The Amazon rep I talked to told me to always check the sender's address by hovering over the line. If it comes from a "Gmail" address it is probably fake.

She also asked me to forward the email. She said they investigate emails like this to try to stop them.

You can sometimes tell from the actual content of the message too. If the writer uses overly formal language or something seems off in the wording, I would never click on the link!

I just got one of those a little while ago with very complicated directions about what to do.

I've been getting them too the past few weeks. And they are coming from an international phone exchange, +63 939.

Huh, who knew USPS works outside the US..

I block the number and report as junk, but still get them.

Annoying ...

Forgot to mention, many fake/scam emails offer insurance (especially auto, which I don't have) and "Black Friday Deals". Elon Musk emailed me again today.

Don't click on the links.

We call these scams but what they are technically is called "phishing". Those links, if clicked on, allow the person that sent you that link access information in your computer, like emails (as in cases of famous people you may have heard of on TV), banking information passwords, and other things that may be of value.

With phone calls, the scam is that they falsely claim to be someone to whom you would give money, or try to get information from you to steal money from your bank accounts. If you give these people enough information, they may be able to open credit cards on your name and that type of thing.

So a good rule of thumb is not to give ANY info to people one does not know.
