Our dryer gave up the ghost last year, we had a Samsung set and I tell you I will never buy another Samsung set. Junk. So we bought the best we could afford, which was a Speed Queen set and it was not cheap. It is a Commercial set and the washer is FANTASTIC. The electric dryer however, gets so hot that it melted the aluminum vent cover inside the drum. Charred it black. So I ordered a new vent cover and replaced it, and had the thermostat reset. About a week later, the new vent cover was black too. No further adjustment can be made to control the heat temp and so all of our clothes

end up with sharp little black cinders stuck all over them! Bed linens, hundreds of dollars of clothes, ruined. After researching, it is a common problem, which Speed Queen will not put a recall on.

@winter girl I don't have any first hand knowledge about them. But I am soon to be in the market for a new washer and I have seen them in the stores. I am fascinated by them and the fact that they take so little space. I will be interested in hearing from people who have them. Am I correct in assuming that you are talking about the washer and dryer that are both in one unit?

After reading a few posts, I'm thinking that it's easier and maybe better that, while one independant machine is washing,, the dryer could be drying items from a previous wash.

So, time-wise, it might be better to have a separate washer and dryer.

Something I hadn't thought about until reading a few posters' posts.
