washer/dryer combo's

Looking for opinions and sugestions on them and would you reccomend one to someone.

@winter girl I don't have any first hand knowledge about them. But I am soon to be in the market for a new washer and I have seen them in the stores. I am fascinated by them and the fact that they take so little space. I will be interested in hearing from people who have them. Am I correct in assuming that you are talking about the washer and dryer that are both in one unit?

@winter girl - do you mean the stackable washer/dryer combo or the all in one washer/dryer unit.

I had the stackable when I first moved in to house - when it finally died, I got full size washer and dryer and had them stacked.

Our previous motorhome had the combo washer/dryer, it did an ok job but the unit was tied up for much longer time than we were used to. Instead of moving the wet laundry to the dryer you need to either hang the laundry to dry or wait for the cycles to complete. Never again.

We rerscue cats That is kind of what I was thinking. Often I have two different dryer cycles with one load of wash. Some of the load I dry on low for just a short time and then hang to dry. And some l will dry all the way or on a higher heat.

I have the GE combo and I love it. So easy to use. They tell you to clean the lint filter once every couple of weeks, but clean it everytime. You also need to use a vacuum attachment for dryer cleaning ever other week depending on how much laundry you do.

When the clothes first come out of the dryer they feel a little damp. You shake them out and then they feel dry. Very strange when you are used to regular dryers.
I've had mine almost a year and no problems/

@cody2 I can wash up to king size blankets (not comforters!). Depends on the material, etc.

I have a GE, and a Whirlpool at our rental. They both work really well. Ours is 9 years old (GE) and the Whirlpool is about 7 years old. I've had stackables at other homes, too. Never disappointed.

Both fill up with water (no restrictions), if you choose large load. Not sure if newer models only fill up so far. I'll be bummed if anything happens to either of mine. I can do really large loads with both of them.

I can't vow for the dryer(s) as we pretty much hang everything outside. If anything goes in the dryer, it's been on the line, but didn't dry thoroughly outside.

I only do laundry once a week so it would never work for me. As one load is drying the next is in the washing machine.

I'm in the middle of shopping for a new set also.
Hubby likes LG becaue Consumer Reports rates them well, but at the LG website, I saw complaints!
I might get a Speed Queen, pricier but the best quality and reliable- built for industrial use. Have not decided yet...

We have a GE stackable we bought when we moved in our house six years ago. We have had no problems or issues, knock on wood! It will wash a king size blanket but I take our comforters to the laundry mat. I've been happy with it.

After reading a few posts, I'm thinking that it's easier and maybe better that, while one independant machine is washing,, the dryer could be drying items from a previous wash.

So, time-wise, it might be better to have a separate washer and dryer.

Something I hadn't thought about until reading a few posters' posts.

@ROMARY You can do that with a stackable. Wash a load, then put it in the dryer and start another load in the washer. They don't have to be separate appliances to do the trick.

OP never came back and specified. But she may have meant a machine that washes first and then can be a dryer.

Can't wrap that concept around my head!

Mine can do really big loads.

But I freaked last night doing a long rubber back bath mat. Had to stop cycle and re-arrange twice. Won't do that again in my washer, although after I rearranged, it spun dry quite well. I love my stackable too much to abuse it. The rug was 60'' long.
