This is just my thought about Black Friday on the Q.

If I were in charge of programming, sales and such. I would have started at midnight with live programming and I would have outstanding sales on everything plus free shipping. Im thinking 40, 50,75% on most things continuing until midnight. Then lesser sale percents the rest of the weekend but still free shipping. All deals would end Sunday at 12:00am.

What are some of your sales ideas?

Better training for the hosts

Too much about where to wear stuff

I'd like to see lower prices,but in today's world don't think it is possible

Easier returns

@Imaoldhippie I won't take responsibilty for decisions when I have never seen the company's contracts with their hosts or their vendors. I do know what might increase sales according to other Forum posters, but what I have no way to know is what the company's costs would be and just as important how great would be the increase of purchases.

My knowledge is limited to what I would do if QVC tried what some Forum members want. I plan to accept an Advanced Delivery already schedlued for early December, but I'm not shopping anywhere this weekend with the possible exception of a supermarket.

Being in charge involves responsibility. I am responsible for my personal bottom line, and that's enough for me to do.

Good thoughts. Here's my take:

I agree about the looong presentations.

don't know what "quick take" is

the hosts seem fine to me as far as training

yes, too much about where to wear things.

prices are too high, but that's everywhere

I don't think they want to make returns easier

shipping could be faster, but you know it's not like Amazon

It irks me when someone says something "looks like money."

Real sale prices, not just at holidays but every sale.

Cut waaaaay back on useless chit chat and personal stories.

Hosts need to give all pertinent details about products.

Improve hosts' knowledge of products.

Stop trying to entertain me. It isn't working.

End the smarmy sales techniques.

Q needs to remember it isn't the only place to shop. I always price shop and, 99.9% of the time, I find the same things elsewhere for less money, promo codes, free shipping.

@Another new name Sue: A few years ago( when I rode a dinosaur to work) quick takes were fast presentations of products,usually 2 minutes or so. Leah was especially good w/these. I usually know if I want what is presented and if I can afford it. Don't care about where to wear it or take it or whom to give as a gift.

I would give much more incentive for frequent shoppers. At other retailers I get coupons and free shipping. Anytime I spend a certain dollar amount at LL Bean I receive a $10 coupon back and also because I have their credit card which offers free shipping, free returns and free mongramming (all the time) I also earn reward points on top of it. I get hundreds of dollars of free merchandise each year! Now that brings me back to do more shopping with them!

I think the one thing I would eliminate are those stupid phone ins!!! Just makes me grit my teeth---as if any of them make me want to buy anything---another is showing the TSV for every other hour--that's 12 hours, at least, a day!!!---maybe every 3-4 hours----but come on--after the first 15 minutes--I KNOW how to wear a bra Nothing else much gets to me--any or rather most of the annoying hosts are easy to avoid by switching the channel. 24 hours of any one thing is boring tho ----

To their credit, the Q is doing more "sales" now than they ever did.

Personally, I think they should eliminate the "junk" shows and just feature regular programming from which people can buy "normal" gifts.

And finally, they really HAVE to do something about their return/exchange turnover time. It takes about a month from start to finish to make an exchange; it's ridiculous.

Give you back your return purchase money much faster. Sometimes it takes many credit card cycles for the return to show up on your credit card.

I would:

Eliminate all shows that have a host's name in it. Frivolous and silly, not to mention many times they are on extended vacations or transitioning to other other shows, that they miss a large number of their scheduled programs. It is also a vanity project for many of the hosts to make them seem more important than they actually are.
Rotate programming quarterly. It gets stale, Monday does not have to be fashion all night. Sundays do not have to be food all afternoon. DV is capable of hosting home decor, electronics, etc. so mix it up. Keep the hosts on their toes so they show more interest in what they are doing. Some of their body language shows boredom and complacency, step up their game.
Let the hosts be individuals, and stop the insane put on dancing, bragging, and over the top behavior. If someone is naturally more low key, do not change their identity. All the viewers are different, stop trying to cookie cutter the newer hosts to be obnoxious performers like a few of the other no-names-mentioned. That old song and dance is also stale and boring, or in some viewer opinions, off putting. They are sales people, stop telling strangers about your kids, missions to foreign countries and vacations.
Tell all details of the product a minimum of two times in the regular 5-7 min presentation. That includes a requirement of showing all colors, fabric content, seams, details, lining, etc. If a host must tell stories or their head will explode, they have to go through all the details at least once before their useless information is provided. If you are selling a car, you talk about the engine, the warranty, etc. because ultimately people want to actually know what they are buying.
Reduce the duration of TSV presentation. Some sources say attentions spans are dropping. People tune out around 2.5 mins, based on a very brief quick search on the internet. Keep it short and get to the point, and stop with the one hour special presentations of these items, after the initial 1 hr midnight kickoff.
Free shipping on all TSV's, Big Deals, Beauty IQ, lunchtime specials, as-is items and clearance.
Reduce the promotion of Q50, Age of P, etc. Commenters, ie; potential buyers, are not really buying into this. It seems to be polarizing and the company needs to stay more middle of the road and inclusive of all people. Not just women of a certain age. Q needs to go back to basics, show unique items, offer better competitive pricing, and address the shipping costs.

ETA

8. As an imaginary leader of this company most of all I would ask myself and of others to do the following: Review all salary costs of hosts, number of hosts, channels and streaming programming including "talent" like the Busy show, Belles podcast, SK podcast, and any other baking, wrapping challenges or cooking/decorating shows and costs of operating. There are a lot of high costs that go into production, directors, set decorators, editing, sound, cameras, etc and maybe licensing fees (not sure about that but threw it in). What actual Value is that bringing to the average customer who lives on a budget? Ask the BD team "is anyone watching this expensive programming?" Finance team, show me the numbers of viewers vs cost. is that a value to Q? Are sales up because of this, or are we throwing anything at the wall to see what will stick because we never really were prepared for online shopping to knock us back on our heels? How can we actually improve the shopping experience for our customers. Perform actual surveys with long term and new customers, what do they like what don't they like and why?

I would have free shipping and free return shipping!

Part of their decreased revenue is shipping. They make money with their antiquated shipping model.

There are too many choices out there that offer free both ways. The only requirement is usually $50 and over. That’s easy to spend.

That is why they push easy pay. Most retailers only offer that through a third party. So, when they offer the 5 easy pays as some kind of bonus. It is for them!

Shorter presentations .

Have a runway where models can mix match clothes with different fashion lines.

Then have the Rep for the line give details abt the piece instead of the Hosts .

No customer phone call ins .
