I ordered the Lindt chocolate candies for Halloween from the Q for my grandkids. They really enjoyed them.

I'm not aware of the Q selling the chocolate bars the OP is talking about @Kachina624 .

Swiss chocolatier Lindt & Sprüngli is facing legal scrutiny due to a class action lawsuit by the US-based Consumer Reports, which accuses its dark chocolate bars of containing dangerous levels of lead and cadmium.

You should look that up. Lots of popular chocolate has a high lead or cadmium content. It's worth reading about.

All dark chocolate contains lead and cadmium and other metals. Well known mass market brands, store brands, higher end brands. Heavy metal amounts vary depending upon where the cacao beans are sourced. Different soils geographically have varying levels.

The issue with Lindt focuses on how they described their chocolate, (specifically the phrase "expertly crafted with the finest ingredients"), not necessarily the level of heavy metals. It's not as if they added arsenic and lead and cadmium to the recipie!

Milk chocolate contains these elements also, but they are highly diluted and not as concentrated as in dark.

There are a number of recent scientific studies of dozens and dozens of brands indicating that the levels are likely not harmful when consumed in moderation. No need to panic.

I'll continue to enjoy my Lindt and other dark chocolate in reasonable moderation.

We love the Lindt dark chocolates, and they are the ONLY truffles that we buy. I think there is one article that stated that Ghirardelli intense was lower or had minimal amounts. We buy that as well, but usually the little squares. I read that some root veggies, nuts and meats also contain cadmium.

Some Lindt bars are some of the better choices, some aren't. I immediately tossed out some Hershey Cocoa and bought a less toxic brand when I read the results.

You can buy lindt candy at walmart,they have the bars,also at our bj's warehouse they have lindt,maybe costco has them ,i don't know.

It would be interesting to know the levels of lead found in the Lindt dark chocolate. It is not uncommon in candy, water, paint, jewelry, soil and dust. We've all been exposed repeatedly and lead is a toxic heavy metal. It has a cumulative effect.

A good friend has a daughter with autism. He shared her heavy metal blood levels and they were very high for the age of 10. There remains some controversy about heavy metal side effects which may contribute to autism. Who knows all the damage these toxins could, or have done, to those more susceptible.

Lead has a half life of a month, or more in the blood and migrates to the bones starting as a child, where it can remain for 20 to 30 years, of course, while we continue to add more. There is no level that is considered safe, only levels conveniently labeled an non-actionable.

My home was (one of two) chosen as a test home for heavy metal study. I was given reports on findings. I had a fair amount of lead in my water, but it was claimed to be a reasonable, non-actionable level. Yeah, right! I gave up drinking, or cooking with my water source when I learned of this, knowing we already are exposed to far too many heavy metals, so I try to eliminate what I can.

A couple of years ago, they finally replaced all the water lines. My current tests show barely traceable levels. But I can't help but think of those of us here who have lived in this neighborhood for decades, ingesting unnecessary lead in our water due to old pipes.

When we find high levels of lead, we must take it seriously and rectify the problem, if possible, since there are many situations we have little control over.

For example a common sweet potato is a veggie that is known to absorb more lead from the soil than many plants. Who knew? We can't get rid of sweet potatoes, but probably a good idea not to have one every day with Lindt chocolate. Just sayin', lol. We just need to be mindful that lead is everywhere.
