Do you use a landline phone?

This post is just a conversation starter, nothing too serious. I still have a landline, but I also have a cell phone. But I think lots of people are choosing to get rid of their landline. Do you still have one? Do you think in the near future that people will stop using them altogether? Do you feel landlines are a good thing or an old fashioned thing?

Yes I have a landline as well as a cell phone also. I use my landlines whenever I'm home, never use my cell at home.

When we retired 07/2019 and moved to Texas, we decided to use only our cell phones. Haven't regretted it at all.

I still have a "land line", but it's not the traditional, hard wired "land line" of the past. It's thru AT&T U-verse, which I believe is VOIP.

Regardless, I don't use it. It's on "do not disturb" mode so callers can't even leave a voicemail message. They get a rapid busy tone for 5 seconds and then the call is disconnected. Anyone that I want to actually talk to has my cell number. Boy, has it made election and medicare open enrollment season nice and quiet!

Why do I still have it? Simple. Bundling with internet service makes it significantly less expensive to keep it than get rid of it.

We went to cell phones, actually DH did it because he was trured of all the political calls 4 years ago. I hatevcell phones and want to go back to having a land line. Pending......

I got rid of the landline several years. The phone company would not or could not fix the static on the line. Seems we were the last ones on the junction box and they didn't want to bother replacing it for one person.

Unfortunately, polical calls don't just happen on landlines. I must have gotten 2 - 4 political text messages every day for the last several months.

We have a landline because we needed one as long as mother was alive in case there was an emergency and cell towers were down.

We still have it, it's just bundled with cable and internet. We've had the number not far short of 50 years!

@mormel20 - I got rid of my land line many years ago. I don't know anyone that has one anymore.

Yes, our landline is part of a package deal with our cell phones and cable.

Yes, we still have a landline. My husband insists on keeping it...if it were up to me I would let it go. Most people I know do not have a landline.

All of our kids use cellphones only. DH and I each have cellphones (he actually uses two) and we still have a landline that we use for local calls. Our landline bill isn't that much so I expect we'll keep it for the foreseeable future.

We also have a landline with our FIOS TV and computer deal. BUT our landline hasn't worked for over 2 years. Verizon has sent numerous "repair" men out to fix the line but as soon as it rains the landline stops working.

But we like having it. Whenever we are asked for our phone number we give our landline phone number. It has cut our solicitation phone calls on our cell phone down considerably. So we are keeping our landline.

Yes, I do still have a traditional landline (POTS). Following Helene there was no cell service in many areas for an extended period of time as towers needed to be rebuilt.

I did not lose service on my landline but for three days I could receive long distance calls but could not call outside of my local area.

We don't have a land line...never used it. When we changed to Direct TV, the phone left the house with the boxes from Spectrum.

I will never give up my landline. I cannot even begin to count the number of times our power has been out for long enough at a time that we had no way to charge our cell phones. We didn't hear the landline ring, of course, but if we had had an emergency, we could have dialed out, and gotten through to 911. As long as I am dialing locally, I always use the land line, the cell phone only gets used for long distance or rarely, to call DH when one or the other of us is outside the home and we need to speak directly to each other immediately.
