I have an Aldi less than 5 minutes away from my house. I really like Aldi. Granted, you cannot find everything there like a large chain grocery store, but the prices are unbeatable and I find most of their own brand products equal to the name brand or, in some cases, better. They also have 'seasonal' items that are quite good. The produce section is also a good choice. I've always had fresh produce from Aldi.

I also enjoy perusing the center aisles for some neat things. I've purchased several items and like the quality and, of course, the price is right!

Whether you're on a budget or just looking to go to a grocery store that is smaller and not overwhelming where you can get in and out in much less time then give Aldi a try.

We can honestly say the only thing we have ever returned to Aldi was cereal. It's now where near the same as the name brand.

Other than that we have been satisified with everything we buy there. Some things may not be as flavorful as the name brand but not enough to say we wouldn't buy it again.

I was an Aldi shopper for a long while but don't visit there regularly any longer. First we dropped the fresh fruits and veggies, they always went bad in just a few days, then it was the bread that was moldy within a few days...and it was always wet. It had been frozen.

@feline groovy- Your post about Aldi was interesting. We shop there weekly and have 2 stores in our small city. My problem with them is that they do not give rainchecks as all other stores do and are constantly out of items in their weekly printed ad. When we ask the mgr. about out of stock items, their response is always the same - it didn't come in. You cannot rely on Aldi to have many of the items in stock so don't plan on getting an item for dinner that night, you couod be disappointed. I have written to Aldi Corporate but nothing has changed.

@WORKING GAL. I remember Walgreens in Texas getting sued by the attorney general for not having advertised specials but offering a more expensive substitute. A true bait and switch.

Is this what Aldi's does? If so, I'd file a complaint.

not a fan of aldi and i have TWO close by, plus a LIDL.

i dont think their produce is good at all.

dont like that they have a deli.

dont like that they dont have a fresh bakery.

i pop in occasionally, but other than buying eggs or a few frozen items, i rarely find anything i really want to try.

We finally started getting ALDI's in Arizona and I must say I'm not impressed after all they hype. Yes they do have a decent fruit and vegetable area but the rest of the store just isn't for me. I prefer Trader Joe's .

I have four Aldi's near me. I go there occasionally.

Their cheese is good as well as their chocolate. They also sell UTS potato chips for $1.99 a bag...good for picnics.

I have a cast iron bread cloque that works just like Le Creuset. It was a bargain. Their canned salmon is good.

That said, the stores do not impress me. Their gluten free foods are not good. Their bread is always dry no one will eat it.

The produce is iffy. The prices for most of the things I am interested in are the same as most grocery stores.

I don't buy frozen processed food...we don't eat it.

I cook from scratch. We just got a lidl store,but I haven't been in there yet.

There are so many grocery stores in my area and they compete for low prices.

@feline groovy Very helpful tips~Thank you so much for posting! I started to shop Aldi's only last year, and I've discovered many things like organic and grassfed cheeses, 96% Grassfed ground beef, Organic hummous all of which I can never find at my regular groceries.

Same organic produce brands as my regular grocery for half the price. And the brands you mention here like Simply Nature etc...I've gotten many items of theirs, including tomato sauce (organic/just ok, but they have Rao's too!) and their peanut butter is good!

I only wish our store carried wine/beer. I visited my friend in VA just last week and her Aldi's has wine/beer. We got a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for $9.99 (called "Don't Mind If I Do")...we both loved it. It's better than some I buy at my regular wine shop for anywhere from $11.99-15.99. If your Aldis carries wine, and you like a light white...I recommend it or any in that brand.

As others said here...first time I went I wasn't impressed and only bought a few items. I tried again and gradually found lots of other good, quality, and same brands as my grocery, including all the organics I mentioned. So I go for certain items only there. I'm selective. I still shop my Fresh Market and Big Y, Stop & Shop too.

I had planned to go to Aldi's tomorrow (though I will now be taking the suggestions here about Wed and Sun, but being away last week, I need some things sooner this week.) My Aldi's is the next town over about 15-20 min from me, but I make the trip usually every 2 weeks. I have two different grocery stores in my town, but extremely high. (I'm in CT...I compared prices down in VA to CT on many items and also going out to eat...we're at least triple the cost up here.)

I picked up a great cat bed there, it's a small chair and the cats loved it...then the fun wore off, so I put it away for a bit, whenI get it back out they will love it again!

Well, I am not impressed with the place. Stopped in on a really HOT day for some ice cream.

When I got the "strawberry" ice cream home...and looked at the ingredients, it was artificially flavored, and colored with beet juice.

I prefer TJ's also, though they have had their issues this year...I get their emails...so many recalls, I lost count. Nothing I've bought there...I don't buy many "packaged, processed" meals, most of the recalls were that, or desserts, cookies etc. But several. No matter, I don't have one near me, so I only make the trip when I'm out that way or occasionally. I heard that Aldi's and TJ's are owned by the same company.

Used to shop at Aldi all the time. The fresh fruits and vegetables couldn't be beat for freshness, taste, and price. Other products were equally good. After the pandemic, all that changed. The produce was still good, but the rest? All of it was a similar price to Wal-Mart's Great Value or Equate brands, and many times, the Aldi quality had gone downhill. I quit shopping there, because why make a trip there when I could get better products with my Wal-Mart grocery pickup? When I think of it, I do look at their weekly ad to see if there is a special purchase in which I'm interested, but if I'm going to get it, I have to get there when the store opens on Wednesdays, or it will sell out.

Id only been in Aldi's 5 min before closing, when a friend wanted to take a quick look.

But I watch the Aldi Ads online, on Wednesdays, as with other grocery stores.

My Mom taught me, & I still do this, buy ONLY what's on sale, anywhere, (except necessarily Ice Cream, my thang ) and that is that weeks Family meals.

She had a massive freezer. I miss mine, for her same reason.

There are quite a few ALDIs near me. Yesterday was the first time that I went to ALDI. I was looking for metal reindeer that are supposed to be a dupe for the expensive Pottery Barn reindeer. Of course no reindeer to be found. I walked around the store and bought a couple of items just because I was there. I was not impressed with the store. It looks like a warehouse or food pantry with an aisle for junky looking Christmas items. Only 2 check out aisles were open. It's no Trader Joe's

@50Mickey - Were you looking at an old Aldi post? I just did a search and I am finding that in 2022 and 2023 they sold the Pottery Barn dup reindeer. So far I have not been able to find they are selling them in 2024.

I saw something on Youtube that said they would be back in early 11/2024. It seems once they are in the stores they go in an instant because people buy them up and resell them. it's a shame that the store doesn't put a limit on the # of sets that one person can purchase.
