Depending on those results and family history it determine the frequency from then on.

My doctor is so proactive that I keep up to date with so many tests.

I get a bone density test about every 5 years. My bone density is just fine but he still wants me to get one.

In a way I can understand his reasoning. I read that most of the time when older women fall and break a hip, that the bone broke and that is why the older women fell.

My Mother-in-law was 93 and living in a nursing home. It was dinner time and she was walking to get into her wheel chair so she could go to the dining room for dinner. And she fell. I often wondered if she fell because her hip bone broke before the fall. After she fell, things went downhill quickly for her healthwise.

Yes they do. I get one every 2 years. I think starting age 66 or something they have you do it. I did okay, I was in osteopenia in 2022, then because I had issues they had me get one last year early, I had dropped to -3. I need treatment but have been fighting it as I am to afraid to take the meds for osteoporosis

Yes, if you've gone through menopause, it's especially important. I am over-due for one, but I have one scheduled next month. I have fairly severe osteoporosis. I used to get the once yearly infusion med for it but my dcotor decided to take me off it for a while. I have severe stomach issues so I could not tolerate the meds you take by mouth. I think it is important to get a bone density test. It is quick and painless. If all tests and procedures could be so simple and painless!
