Concert for Carolina

Musicians James Taylor, Eric Church, Luke Combs, and Billy Strings will headline a concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Helene. It will be held on October 26, 2024 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC. Hope the weather cooperates and that it is a sellout. Also hope it will be televised. May it be only the first of benefit performances for those struggling to get back to a safe and normal existence.

It might be necessary to add Florida as a recipient too. If another area is devastated, it doesn't seem right to just include one.

They should just donate, we don't need these musicians playing music so people buy tickets or albums so they look like the heroes.

@willomenia. People are moved by music they enjoy and it puts them in a good mood, therefore, they're more likely to be generous.

@willomenia - Honestly, I can't get over the out and out cynicism of some people.

Music concerts have always been one of the ways to raise money for good causes: "LiveAid", "FarmAid", "One Love Manchester"...the list goes on and on.

Maybe, just maybe, these artists are using the gifts they've been given and the platforms they have to raise more money than one person alone could.

Ever think of that? It's a positive spin on things, rather than negative.

And, BTW, how do you know that they're not also donating privately? Answer: you don't.

It takes a tremendous amount of time and work to present a concert.

I give credit whenever relief concerts are given.

I don't view them as heroes but as fellow persons using the best they have to help others.

The suffering is heartbreaking. And those suffering will know more relief.

Their journey to recovery is a long one and hopefully it can be shortened just a little bit by the selfless acts of others.

@Kachina624 Concerts are not organized overnight.

I understand what you are saying but this concert was being developed before Milton became an issue.

Hopefully we will see the same for Florida because it will be needed too at some point, sadly.

You had an issue previously with firemen being considered heroes.

Not surprising you're saying we don't need musicians looking like heroes. It's much more than that and deeply layered as music does permeate many boundaries.

And you're saying other posters aren't getting the point. I think your perception of heroes is one of the strangest and meanest I've seen.

Its a wonderful thing and there will be more of these types of venues happen in the future for Florida no doubt. It gives hope to those that lost everything including family and friends and pets. People need something to look forward to, they need HOPE!

Absolutely terrific idea! What generosity and thoughtfulness from those with ties to North Carolina. Truly inspirational.

I hope that it's phenomenally successful for everyone involved.

(I should be shocked that some are displeased and disgruntled, but considering this place, I'm really not. The disapproving attitude expressed is truly disturbing.)

And you're free to keep being cynical, dismissive of others' attempts to help in any situation, suspicious of their motives, dismissive of other posters who don't agree with your view.

Personally, I don't think any of the musicians taking part in this concert (or any other relief concert) would label themselves as "heroes". That's just you projecting your own view onto them. As they say here: "you do you".

If the concert is on the up and up its good. Many are not exactly honest about the money they take in - it goes into someone's pocket.

I think I read that the musicians were donating their services, so 100% of ticket sales will go to hurricane relief. It doesn't always work that way, so these performers are already being quite generous.

I think a concert is an excellent idea. It raises money and people get together for a feeling of community. At times like these it is important for people to gather together for a good cause.
