Weekly Hairdo

We had an appointment to get our hair "fixed" every week. It was a standing appointment for the same day at the same time. Forget Friday, it never had an opening. (I am not in this photo. I saw it online, and it brought back memories.)

Great post @On It . Of course I am way too young for this (LOL) but seriously I remember going to the salon (or beauty parlor) with my mom and aunts in the 60's. Such fond memories of them with all their "teased" hair. Love it!

Reminds me of a neighbor who had her hair "done" weekly and then wrapped it in toilet paper before going to bed.

Her husband must have loved that. Ugh.

Not really but she sure worked on maintaining her 'do until her next appointment.

What I remember about the whole hair thing was the arguments I would have w/Mom during that "time of the month" cuz' I couldn't wash my hair. I liked then and still do shampoo my hair every day.

I am reminded of a funny incident. My appointment was on Thursday after school. I was teaching. A little boy came over to me at recess.

He asked, "Is today the day you go to the beauty shop?"

I answered, "Yes."

He said, "Good," and ran off to play.

I too was a child when women were doing this, but my mom was a Baltimore "Hon" and the higher the hair the better! She was the hair on the far right end! Two "wiglets" on top of her full head of teased like cornstalks hair. Omg she had so much Aqua Net hairspray on it the wasps used to fly around it. She went every Friday. Had to get that party hair for the weekend. She had pink hair for one NYs eve party. It looked like a twirl of cotton candy! That was an art. I wonder if stylists now know how to do that.

This is exactly what my mother did. But not so strange, considering that many girls my age were going to bed with their hair wrapped in juice cans around that same time! #60s hair ha ha.

Uh uh @tansy . My mom was not British and I was told the same silly thing. I think it was a multi-cultual old wives tale lol.

I still go almost every week. Occasionally I will miss but not often. I do remember going with my Grandmother and Mother in my younger years. I think I learned it from the two of them!

None of my freinds' mothers were like this. She claimed I would get ill. 🤷‍♀️

OMG ..... ORANGE JUICE CANS!

I recall that .... and it later evolved into ironing my hair.

I "perfected" it by scooping sections of hair straight up, rolling it around the can, and then using bobby pins to anchor the can. I would do a whole row on the top of my head. It looked like an orange juice can Mohawk!

Then it later creeped my mother out to see me ironing my hair on her ironing board, but since I had just washed my hair, I saw nothing wrong. LOL
