Unsanitary makeup shopping

This happened several days ago but I kept thinking of it. I was in a store and a woman was trying lipstick colors on the back of her hand. This was not samples put out for the purpose. She was getting lipsticks off the shelf and trying them on her hand and put back the colors she did not like. I keep think of the next customer who buys a lipstick that has touched this persons skin. Think of germs and bacteria and or plain old dirt, who know what was on the woman's hand. I think I will only buy lipstick that has an outer package from now on.

Decades ago, I worked in a local store of a nationwide pharmacy/drugstore chain. Back then, everyone from women in their 70s who you might think would have known better to teens were doing this -- regularly. Nothing new.

Best to always look for sealed products.

I was looking at travel sized moisturizers today at CVS. Several had the seal removed and there was foundation crusted around the bin. Yuck.

I was just in Ulta over weekend and bought some Lancôme lipsticks that were 20% off. I purposely opened the package to make sure they weren’t used. Prior to opening package, I looked at the samples that were out for each color that I wanted to get.

I honestly wish all lipsticks in drugstores, etc. would have tubes where the top was clear so you could get an idea of what the color really was. Some of the tubes are totally made so you cannot see the color at all. Those paper color samples are nothing like what the colors really are. I hate to return things but I have had to several times because the lipstick colors were not what I wanted at all. They can't leave actual sample lipticks out any more because people trash them and smear them all over the place, plus because of bacteria and germs.

I have always hoped companies would package lipsticks that are the exact shade of the tube. As the eyes "go", it's so difficult to read the labels of the more than 2 dozen lined up in my drawer.

Testing the color on your hand is useless anyway. The skin on your hand and the skin on your lips are different and the lips are of course a darker pinkish color. The lipstick color will be a different color than on your lips anyway.

However that dont stop people from doing it. Until they seal the tubes and have sample colors there it will continue to be done. The store and companies loss is probably huge or maybe not since they dont seem concerned enough to fix it.

Yes, I see this too and not just lip products.

If vendors would put out samples that may not happen, but with all companies

they're not wasting money.

Sephora is the example of samples. Love the store but what I like is very limited.

I see women and teens doing that all the time in Ulta and Sephora, but they were using samples....

When I purchase I make sure my lipstick is sealed..

Companies and stores would save a lot of money by using sealed, Clear tube tops.

(As someone else mentioned.)

Actually, it would be / should be a 'law' or, at the very least, a popular trend.
