Home office

Just wondered who has a "home office", a desk or room dedicated to all home related papers such a bills, receipts, calendars, computer, printer, etc.... I do and it sure helps keeps me organized.

I do @bargainsgirl , but I work from home, so it's required. If I didn't work from home, I would still enjoy having an office in my home.

I do, though it is winding down somewhat. I ran my travel agency and then for the past 15 years have been employed as a personal assistant/VP of a company based in Washington DC. Originally I had 2 4-drawer filing cabinets but today everything is mostly housed within my computer system so my need for space is not as critical. Thank heaven for computers! I love taking my job with me no matter where we go!

I work from home, so I have a dedicated office. I do love having a space just to myself for all of my work things where I can close the door and not have to look at it, for example, in my kitchen or bedroom.

Oh how I wish I did!! I have my space, not really an office--more a computer area--- in my bedroom and I just hate it--always looks messy--I am in a small 2 bd appt with DD so room is not a thing we have much of.

I don't have a home office, per se, but I do have a couple of spare guest rooms where I have a desk set up with all my office type items in one of them. I don't work from home, so my set up is enough for me.

I don't have a gift closet either, but I do have a couple of shelves that I keep some future presents on. LOL

We have more of a "work area". DH has his computer desk in our loft which also has a file cabinet, bookcase and a cozy rocking chair with big cathedral windows. It's a nice relaxing spot and we both use it. It is organized and all important essential documents are in one place.

Call me old fashioned but I still want a paper copy of the important stuff. I do save just about all of then on my external drive.

it started out as a guest room until I got my first computer. Eventually as more things like printer, scanner, file cabinet moved in the bed left.

These days I have my sewing machine, bookcase and curio cabinet.

Also I have a stack of storage bins in In the coner behind the door so it dosen't look so cluttered when you look in.

We do. In fact I just recently got it cleaned up and more organized. It has a wood floor and a wall of built in bookshelves. It has a desk and a comfortable chair for reading. I just put the Berkshire Sunflower blanket on the chair and it looks great there. We also have two short wood fiile cabinets for all the papers. I have a place for decorations on top of them.

I am one that keeps EVERYTHING as far as paper statements for all the bills, insurance stuff, bank statements, anything and everything. When the files get too full, I move some to a banker's box, labeled, and put it in the garage. I am sure someday I will recycle it all, but not now.

Years ago I used to work for a mortgage company for years. I would pull credit reports on all the buyers. So many would have old bills and collections on their report that, "I swore I paid that, " etc. Yet they had no proof. I think that started me on a path of keeping everything.

One of our sons keeps absolutely nothing. I just found out that he threw out the instructions to all his new appliances. He thinks he can just find everything online. That may be true, but still........ he keeps being a minimalist to an extreme.

That was first on the list when we were looking for a retirement home--especially since my husband was doing some consulting. Nice laundry room was second.

The office saved us! We were simply awash in papers from our things and retirement paperwork, to the mountains of mail and paper generated by my mom, which got three times worse in the nursing home. It was awful.

Anyone without at least a table and filing cabinet has my heartfelt sympathy. Been there, done that.

Yes I do. I would be lost without my desktop computer and filing system. I'm another one who keeps all the paperwork for many (probably too many) years. It works for us.

Never worked from home, but we used some of our wedding money to buy a large computer desk. At that time, you needed a lower shelf to hold the tower and a raised shelf for the monitor, plus several drawers. It's in our den, along with a leather recliner and bookcase.

When I wrote the thank you notes, I thought saying we bought a desk sounded stupid, so I said we used their monetary gifts to help furnish the house.

No I wish I did! I have a small desk with my desktop computer on it in my guest room.

When I'm having company I move out of room to my den area.

I'd go to a laptop but I have my Mac and printer setup and like it.

@bargainsgirl Yes, I do but it's actually what used to be my dining room, which was used maybe 4 times in 23 years we've been here. Wasted space, so I got rid of the table and chairs and made it a work space. I work from home quite a bit, and I too needed a dedicated work space. Works for me!
