On my walk this morning I heard the owls, but didn't expect to actually see them. Then we came upon them. One on each side of the street (new housing development)

hooting at each other. They were not bothered by us at all.

It was fun watching them. One would hoot and shake its feathers and the other one would follow suit. Were they courting, or was it a challenge, like you are in my hunting ground, get lost?

I love owls. We have owls by us but I never see them. The other morning I was up at about four thirty and heard an owl and a rooster at the same time. That was special.

We have owls that nest on the rafters at our local Lowes.

Talk about huge nests!!

You have to be careful where you walk sometimes too!

A few times during the winters here in WA state--we had a snowy owl perch on the roof early in the night---never heard it hoot but sure was an amazing sight. Where I live now, in an apartment, during the cold months, you can hear owls hooting back and forth between them---answering each other calls---I live near a lot of wooded areas with lots of trees and such--the coyotes do the same thing --not hoot--but howl and bark at each other.

@wagirl We live in a wooded area and I also hear the coyotes at night. They now travel in packs, right on our road and sometimes though my property.

In 2006, my cat was taken by a coyote.

Other nearby neighbors started to lose their cats.

Cats are no longer roaming free in the neighborhood.

For their safety, they are indoor cats only.

Sounds like the construction took away both of their hunting areas, fighting for the scraps.

@CrazyDaisy I'm sure that is the case. So many poor animals have been displaced over the past 10-15 years, in our area.

Much of their habitat has been destroyed with all the new construction of over 100 new homes.

The poor things don't know where to go. There are deer, coyotes, foxes, racoons, skunks,possums, rabbits and turkeys and my husband even saw a large wild cat. Maybe it was a mountain lion. We have hills of rock that have been blasted out for construction.

We see and hear more hawks flying over, looking for food.

We feed birds, squirrels and chipmunks, so it is a buffet for

the hawks. I sometimes find a cluster of feathers, beneath our

pine trees.

I have lived in my house since 1978 and we never saw so much wildlife, before all this construction. I feel so badly for the animals.
