I keep a pair of binoculars (12x50 Nikon version) at the ready at all times. My view is somewhat limited as I am surrounded by 20' and 30' trees but there is a fairly clear view of the lake across the street and down a steep hill from my house. I really have no clue which pair of binoculars I should have for my situation, so I am sorry to be no help on what might work best for you. For the most part I find that my binoculars work out sufficiently. FWIW, sometimes I will notice a fishing boat and I will use my binoculars to check out who is in the boat. And sometimes I catch an eagle in the air or zero in on the waterfowl paddling by (ducks and geese mainly). Sometimes an egret will show up and I will focus on that. Well, that's not what you asked about .... I'll shut up now. Hope you find your best option and enjoy the views.

I live in an apartment building with nice views. I would like to keep a pair of binoculars on the windowsill to see various sights – birds, animals, the skyline, moon, planes, etc. Does anyone have a recommendation for binoculars?

Thanks

We watch birds too. I got a pair of Nikon Pro staff 3S, 8x42 a couple years ago and we love them. Very clear and the field of view has been good for far away as well as pretty close (10-12 feet?). I don't know if they're still available, but Nikon's have always been a good bet for binocs in our experience.

ETA: They're also a good size--not too big or heavy.
