Santa Fe Indian Market

This is the weekend of the annual Santa Fe Indian Market when the Indians bring their various arts and crafts for sale. People come from all over the world to buy directly from the artists. It's so much fun and the best place ever to people watch. Its hot this weekend with temps in the 90s in Santa Fe, although, it's 9,000 ft in altitude, right at the foot of the beautiful Sangre de Christo Mountains.

Here's a photo taken this morning. All of the white rectangles are the tents where the artists have their work displayed.

@Kachina624 Wow, I would bet the Native American crafts are just beautiful. I will let my wanderlust son know about this next time he heads out West. Is it the same time every year?

I used to travel there for the colonial arts market, I think it was in late July. Went 2 or 3 times but it was much smaller than this one it looks like.

Love Santa Fe, "the city different."

@Kachina624 Oh ok! He would enjoy that. This past trip, he visited the Salton Sea. He said it was one unique spot.

I have visited Santa Fe several times, and it's one of my favorite places! I went to the open-air Santa Fe opera once, and it was the most beautiful setting.

A beautiful and welcoming city. I have always shopped the marketplace on the visit, but this larger scale I have never seen. Wow!

@AZfem. Due to mobility issues, I can no longer stand and walk as much as this requires. Makes me very sad.

I wish everyone could attend. It's a once in a lifetime experience....the crafts, the food, the city, the culture.

I went there years ago ,took my mom about 1997, it was wonderfull.

@Kachina624 I have never gotten the opportunity to visit Santa Fe, though it is on my Bucket List. I'm afraid I would spend a small fortune during this event...though I'm sure even 'window' shopping would be fantastic!

Thank you for posting the pic! Was just speaking with a fellow antique dealer and she has gone often to the Indian Market.

We had several dealers from Denver & San Francisco spend almost the whole month of August there. Have heard the Ethnographic show has closed down that was a huge show.

I have never been to New Mexico, but it is a place that I would like to visit.

I would love to go to the Santa Fe Indian Market and also see the hot air balloons.

Maybe someday. It's on my bucket list.

@Kachina624The picture brings back so many memories. Back in 1965 I was TDY for a weekend retreat up in those beautiful mountains. Visited the market and bought a beautiful Indian basket with handles for my mother and a turquoise (you would love it and still have it) jewelry pouch. It was not the official August market for I was there in the month of June. Was just looking at my pictures of long ago last night. It looks like it has not changed at all since then. What a wonderful part of our country!!

Looks like it's still going on, found this online. My dealer friends from SF would drive to Santa Fe to sell their Native American items at the Ethnographic show which was historically a week before the Indian Market. They made a bundle.
