Stormy Weather

I live in the PNW and over the past few years our weather during the summer is warmer than usual. But this year, we have had very little rain and most days are above 80

But last night we had an incredible lightening, thunder and rainstorm that lasted for a few hours. It started in central Oregon and moved all the way up into Canada.

Can't remember the last time the whole region was hit with this type of storm. Luckily we didn't have any power outages and I haven't heard of any additional fires or flooding. Hopefully it helped the fires that are happening in Eastern Washington.

@catmama I'm also in King County but not thank God in Seattle! The first big clap of thunder actually made me jump. Lots of lightning and thunder for a few hours. Very strange for the PNW so I'm told. I moved here in 2010 and this was a first. Very humid today.

I am in Woodinville--and we got dumped on with the rain and had the thunder/lightening too. No hail or gusty winds but it did pour most the night. Now, its brilliant sunshine and blue sky--still muggy tho and a little breezy. Have lived here for 67 years now---the weather has certainly changed---our power stayed on. Wish eastern WA got the rain we did-----

The whole country has been warmer than average the past few years. Every year, they tell us we had the warmest summer on record. I just heard this month is the hottest August on record.

When you live where the average is normally pretty hot, these increases are nearly unbearable. I don't even go outside. It's like Minnesota in January. We hibernate.

Covington here! Oh my that was a loud evening of thunder and bright flasing lightning!

We were in Fairwood at friends all evening and about 8:30 it began to pour and storm!

Wanted to ge home to our kitty to make sure she wasn't freaked out home alone!

@catmama I would love a thunder storm right now. It's so dry here in CA. I love the sound of rain. I listen to a soundtrack every night of rain to help me fall asleep.

@Kachina624 It rained all morning over here....and that was AFTER the weatherman said "no rain in sight"...........

@Kachina624 As soon as the rain started, the temp went down from the (overnight) 90's to 79. But the high crept up to 102 again in the afternoon. It was a kinda muggy (50%)...but not "tropical" like Florida.

Around midnight, I had seen some lightning but I figured it was the "heat" kind. About 2am, I heard crashing thunder that rattled the windows. The rain really came down. I had standing water in the yard.

Edited to add: Just watched the local 10pm news, and they said we had ½ to ONE INCH, depending on the neighborhood.

The Pacific Northwest gets very few thunerstorms. One reason is the ocean water that borders the state is cold. That tempers storms (clash of warm and cold air) One meterologists that lived in Seattle for 8 years never had one thunderstorm.

Stormed in Maryland most of the evening. Another round should come today. Its very humid, but the temps are not that high. Today it will be 82F Then a week with litle or no rain coming.

@Desertdi. Wow, it sounds like you got your annual rainfall all in one night.

We've had a whole summer of 50-70% humidity and I'm sick of it. Although I haven't suffered, my swamp cooler hadn't worked to capacity. It's gone for a few dry days so I'm freezing.

ONE GOOD THING.......the storm got rid of the smog that's been hanging over us for the past three months!!!! Clear blue sky this morning.....just like a postcard. 4pm now....and 107°. di
