I am re-gifting an item this year...My granddaughter is expecting a baby late December, and I have a hand-crafted Christmas stocking that has a vintage santa face on the front...very nice and something I purchased years ago at a Yankee Peddler show. It is in great shape.

I no longer put it out at Christmas so this year I am going to find things for the new baby that are small enough to fit in the stocking for baby's gift...it's a win,win...baby gets presents and I am gifting the stocking to the baby.

I have also thought about taking a lantern that I no longer use/want and fill it with a fall or Christmas scene...if I can do a nice job and feel like it is giftable I will do that...

I think you'd do well to check with them to see if there are any pieces that they would want. I had/have large storage tubs of various decor items that were passed down to me from older relatives. I neither like or want them - to me they are just more clutter, but i didn't want to hurt their feelings. There's nothing valuable about any of the items. As room in the community dumpster becomes available, in goes another tub. I'm down to the last 2.

If by "gifting" you mean allowing them to choose those items that appeal to them, it might be a good thing. It is my experience that choosing home decoration items is a very personal decision.

I'm in the same situation have beautiful decor for every season but now that I'm alone since my spouse passed (my spouse used to love the house decorated) I don't have the desire to put it all out @Patriot3.

I asked my family members to go thru my things and take what they'd like -- unfortunately, we live 1500 miles apart. They've taken things they could but I still have a lot.

I think it's great to gift/give pieces if your grandchildren & others if they want them & would enjoy and a nice rememberance of you!

I agree with the other posters. Check with them first. Show them what you have and ask them if there is anything they'd like to have. I go to estate sales and they are always over flowing with holiday decorations. Most just walk by them. I don't think people decorate that much anymore. When I lived in California, hardly anyone decorated for any holiday. My neighbors across the street have 3 young ones and hardly decorate at all. A little bit for Christmas and maybe just a wreath for Halloween. That's it.

Be prepared. Your grandchildren might not want anything. Hopefully, they might take an item or two that they always liked and that reminds them of you and your home around the holidays.

I cleaned out the home of a friend who was a holiday decor nut. She had so many items....not cheap, collectibles that cost her over $100 each...some much more No one wanted them.

She had Christmas, Easter, Fall, Halloween, Valentines Day, St Paddy'S Day and Patriotic decor.

I tried to give to family, then friends, then yard sales and finally donate. Hardly any one wanted anything. Even the charity shops did not want holiday decor.

If I had the time, I guess I could have tried e-bay, but her house needed to be sold and everything had to go. I just couldn't sell or give away much in the time frame I had to work with.

I gave some stuff to a bunch of kids at a yard sales and they were happy.

Only the Halloween and Fall stuff had a lot of interest and most of it was sold.

I too, have a bunch of Christmas and Easter stuff sitting in my basement. I no longer decorate.

I guess I will ask my kids and grands if they want anything.

I hate throwing this stuff out, but I know that is where some of it will end up.

I hope your grands are interested. I would ask them.

Ask first and preface that an answer of "no thanks" is perfectly fine and there won't be any hard feelings. Sorry if this sounds insensitive but even if YOU think the decorations are nice, unless the grandkids are older with their own homes and may want a piece or two, it sounds like you're passing your trash along and making someone else deal with your collection. Ask each grandchild once, if they want to pick anything out, then drop the subject. Bring the decorations to a resale shop or donate them somewhere.

I would ask, and let them choose. I can't imagine anyone minding you offering. I don't think I would give like a gift, wrapped up though. I am 76, and have 8 grands ranging from 19-35. They are always going thru my stuff. And here in California thrifting, and regifting is huge with their age group. But, they are of a different breed when it comes to household stuff. I have 8 sets of China, real sterling silverware that is almost 100 hrs old, and some antiques. I have asked..they just don't use it. And although I don't use the China, here in California, most thrift stores don't take it as donations because of lead content. Sigh. Who'd a thunk it? We used to,treasure this stuff. My poor mom, would be so upset and sad her things weren't being reused after me.

I would ask them first rather than gifting them with things they may not want. Let them come over and check out what you have. If they don’t want anything then donate to your local thrift store. But ask them first.

If you check and grands dpnt take it all, and you live in a neighborhood that allows, you might want to think about leaving stuff on your curb for others to take. Ive never not had anything left by the end of the day when i put stuff out. Keeps me from having to trash it or take to Goodwill (which is not a bad idea if still in selling condition).

You can slso call shelters to see if they need decorations.

One time, driving by around my corner, i saw one of my things I had curbside at someone's garage sale. ( They have one once a month so they do this curb picking often.) Good on them!
