Hi everyone, I have to share one of my worse days ever being a furbaby owner. My chihuahua received 2 vaccinations . 30 minutes later she went into shock. I was at home and rushed her back to the vet, of course I'm hysterical. She's 14 and never had a problem getting 2 shots. They gave her a steroid shot and she was better within 15 min.Now she's fighting a uti, I'm assuming she got this from the stress she went through. Come to think of it, I probably will too. Thanks for reading .

I'm sorry this happened to your baby.

Because My Reilley is a senior, my vet gives him one vaccination at a time. She waits two weeks between each shot.

My Reilley is also small.

I hope the UTI clears up soon and both of you are no longer stressed and uncomfortable. xxx

So very scary!! I have a senior cat--14 years old--and truly wonder if she needs all the vaccinations the vet wants her to get. She is strictly an indoor cat, always has been and has meds for IBD and thyroid issues so she gets those daily. I never go anywhere that requires me to put her in a boarding place. She is never around other animals, ever--- except at the vets. I do know the wisdom of shots ----and have always gotten her vaccinated. Guess I will ask the vet before her next old lady appt. and will prob end up getting her a few but not all at once. She is fully vaccinated now.

My dogs are gone now but I stopped giving most vaccines when they became seniors. I just felt they had enough in their systems by then. I know if you board them you have to give some vaccines but we never did board them. Everyone has their opinions on this but we were never sorry. We did give rabies because it is the law here.

Hope she recovers soon!! We had a scare today too, with aspirin toxicity, but she is getting better! 💝

They make us think the dog needs every vaccine ($). I don't give her the Lepto vaccine, which is the toughest one-

Don't give all the shots your vet tells you they need,yes if you get a puppy give the puppy vaccines, if your dog is considered a senior,do not keep giving them,ask yourself do us humans keep getting vaccine's,except for the covid vaccine's, and OP YOUR DOG IS A TINY DOG,stop doing the vaccines.

@Momofdogs When I first got my chihuahua mix nearly 4 yrs ago she had a reaction from the heartworm vaccine. Stopped eating & was listless for 24 hrs. That was the last time.

Now the only vaccines she gets are for lyme disease because I live in a very high lyme disease county & the Bordetella vaccine because the kennel is her 2nd home.

My cat is a 100% house cat (only outside on patio). He hasn't had a shot since he left the shelter 19 yrs ago. I personally see no reason for 100% indoor cats to get shots.

Sorry your baby had problems from those shots.

She's probably smaller than my Jack Russell and I only get her a shot at the time. Sometimes she's had trouble with pain in the vaccination site. They gave me a medicine for that. Last week I only gave her two doses. Guess it depends on the shot.

I hope the UTI is gone soon also. I'd much rather be sick than my dog!

WOW! Stuff like that sends me BONKERS, so I completely understand you, @Momofdogs .

Messing with my furbabies is not allowed, Vet, or no Vet. And I'm a royal B if anything happens, or could happen, regardless of any reason, their fault, or not their fault.

My furbabies cant talk. I'm entrusted with my furbaby/furbabies life/lives/health! So dont mess with me (Vet, or otherwise.)

When yr furbaby reacted & you rushed off back to the Vets, did the Vets rush u in for furbaby's exam/treatment immediately?

I realize, they dont like it usually, but I want ALL, possible procedures done in front of me! More & more they seem to want to carry my furbaby off somewhere to do something even as supposedly simple as Injection! WHY's THAT? hmm I wanna know why! And where do you want me to stand? (See the Warrior part?) & even if sounding like a B. so what? Vets are a dime a dozen. My furbaby/I are not married to a wrong Vet)

And it's amazing what service i usually get by being this way that I am, just naturally even. Cant hack it? Bye & dont charge me!

Did the Vets tell you that the UTI was as a result of the two injections? or did they say your furbaby had the UTI before they double vaccinated?

The Vet should have told u, esp so you know in future? Jeppers! They're the Vets! (Or did they pass any/all this off to a Technician?)

Also, I DO NOT RECOMMEND the Store/Vet Section, "Pet Smart," (Vets section), what so ever!! Im assuming still now, since they were discovered to be entrusting UNsupervised Students to perform menial to serious operations, & I wont even mention their history of results.

ALL my babies have been exclusively indoors. And when I visit or touch ANY other animals, i shake off, & wash thoroughly when I enter the house, before I even touch any of my own babies. Dramatic? You bet!

Esp Multiple cat, (or even single cat) household with a flea problem is a veritable Nightmare!! at a minimum

I glad your furbaby is somewhat better & hope she (& Mom) continue to become increasingly better, "Mom." You did good!!

Wanna let us know how things continue to go for yr furbaby? (& yrself?) Am pulling for y'all

I hope your chihuahua will soon recover. I have a beyond sweet semi-Siamese rescue cat, and she went into kidney failure briefly the last time I transported her by car to the vet.

She was feral for a long time, and likes me very much! (As I like her.) But she is stressed around strangers, especially if a vet's office smells like the place where they took her 3 perfectly healthy kittens away from her (to place them in adoptions) and then did a hysterectomy on her when she was in estrous. (sp?).

When I moved long distance recently, I tranquillized her, and I think it saved her from air travel anxiety, but just going to the vet for her has caused abnormal kidney bloodwork,

Our pets are so precious, but so delicate.

She likes our new temporary digs in a small rental apartment in a quiet rural setting. She is OK now.

She will be even happier if and when I find a house for us! One thing at a time.

@Momofdogs I know I would have been crazy if that happened to one of mine so I can imagine your stress. How is yourm furbaby doing now?

Now that we are no longer showing I do not innoculate our babies. They are 100% indoor, but PA requires rabies, which our neighbor state, Ohio, does not, my vet and I battle about it all the time.

I am so sorry that happened to your precious fur baby and I hope she is soon on the mend! We had an elderly tiny pug that had a terrible reaction to her annual vaccines so we stopped all but the rabies vaccine for her to prevent further issues. Sending my best to you and your little one ❤️🐾

Years ago my brother and I got Sheltie puppies from the same litter. My girl got her first shots with no problem. Brother and sis-in-law's puppy got his first set of shots and even tho my brother ran him right back to the vet at the first sign of a reaction, vet was unable to save him.

I'll never forget my big, strong, mentally tough brother calling me and breaking down as he asked "What am I supposed to tell my wife when she comes home from work??" We both were crying.

It seems it might have been about 7 hours since your original post in here about your recovering furbaby.

How is she doing at this time?? Any better? Sleeping well?

Oh,your poor baby. I am so sorry that happened.

I have two small dogs. They received all their puppy vaccines, but I do not allow them to get yearly vaccines.

They only get the rabies vaccine every three years as required by law. They also do not get any flea protection chews.

Once a year, they get physicals, blood work and fecal tests. They also get titers. Titers check for vaccines that are still active in their system.

There is no reason for dogs to get all these vaccines after their initial puppy shots every year. These vaccines are toxic and have mercury in them and they last at least 7 to 9 years in a dog's system. The same dose is given to a dog who weighs 3lbs and a dog who weighs over 100lbs.

Yes, I fight with the vet, but I don't give in. Sometimes he has been sneaky and wants to take my dogs to a back room for the exam, but I don't allow this.

My vets are a husband and wife team. I always request her. I don't trust him...he will do anything to pad the bill.

@Momofdogs What a Day! I'm glad Your furbaby survived her shock. Good thing you live fairly close by to get her back to help Quickly! Vaccines can cause a reaction even if they've been given before.

Remember the Covid vax? Get a jab, take a seat for 15 minutes after. THAT"S what they were watching for.

As advocate for your furbaby, You have the right to decline ANY proceedure to your pet by the Vet. Just talk To them and ask questions during the exam. They Don't Know what you want unless you let them know.

I would find another vet. This should not have happened.
