Aerosmith Retiring From Touring

People magazine is reporting the band is retiring from touring because Steven Tyler will never recover from fracturing his larynx and is not supposed to be talking much, if at all.

I love their music, but I never saw them in concert. At least their music will live on.

Fleetwood Mac seems to be done too. Lindsey Buckingham is out of the band after Stevie Nicks gave them a choice of Lindsey or her. Now Stevie says she won't tour with the band without Christine McVie, who passed away a year ago.

IDK. We were lucky enough to see Fleetwood Mac in concert a few times, including after Christine returned to the group. We also saw Stevie and Don Henley in concert.

The music lives on, and after hearing some of my children's choices I am so glad.

@beach-mom. How did Steven Tyler fracture his larynx?

I had dinner with him one night at a restaurant in Aspen. We were facing each other with a very narrow aisle between us. I could have reached out and touched him.

He was very gracious and seemed to enjoy visiting with diners after he finished eating, signing autographs and posing for photos with people.

I was with my cousin who had to tell me who he was.

I'm so sorry that they have to give up touring but it was definitely the right decision for Steven.

Many years ago, they played in the basement of my college's camput church. Admission was $1. I remember telling my younger brothers about them and that they were going to make it one day. And lo and behold. Such talent. I wish them all well.

@Kachina624 - Apparently he injured it while performing last September. The band postponed the rest of the tour.

The band announced the injury was more serious than they originally thought, but then they still expected him to return.

Here is the official announcement from the band:

@Kachina624 - YW! It must be hard for singers when they lose their voices that were their trademark. In Steven's case he's not even supposed to talk, but as his one daughter said, good luck keeping him quiet. He apparently doesn't like to text on the phone, but I suppose that will change.

My son and I saw Aerosmith in Oklahoma City in the '90s and enjoyed the concert. 🎶

I had heard his wife is from Tulsa or maybe his mother-in-law.

This is sad news although I don't really have any plans to attend any of today's concerts, just not the same with all the monitors now. I saw them in concert in the late 80s, probably the last real rock concert I've attended. With his singing style, I can only imagine the damage done to his larynyx. No one can scream like Steven Tyler! They sure could entertain an audience and I always felt they were all enjoying themselves. I've been a fan from their beginning!

I have seen Aerosmith a few times in the 90's, they put on a great concert. My good friend and her daughter went to one of their concerts in 2005 and had back stage passes. They got their picture taken with the band, and she said that Steven Tyler was very nice.

One of the best bands ever. Aerosmith was my very first concert I attended in 1974, I was 14 years old..........I've been lucky to see them numerous times over the years and the best moments ever was Steven Tyler playing a grand piano and singing Dream on all by himself. OMG, love my boys from Boston!

Yes, as a boomer....all our music heros have one: made the MOST of themselves, many touring into elderly years! But sadly now two: passing or retiring. I really feel we had the "golden age" of REAL music. "Ok, Boomer" Anyway, at least "rock" oriented...no more of that around much.

I was lucky to see Aerosmith twice...1990 in CT, my home state, outdoor arena/park. 1992 into '93, New Year's Eve in Boston, their "hometown", which was awesome to see them there. It was "sold out" and I remember calling ALL day to see if tickets beame available. Then, end of the day, we just decided to ride up and take a chance. Walked up to the box office, got tix, decent seats too.

I used to work at a theater...and always said...even a "sold out" show...is rarely ever completely sold out...oftentimes promotional tix, reserved for VIP's, radio stations, and other media outlets, are held aside, and not all used and you can walk up and get those, especially at the last minute. Things have gotten tougher and more "online only" these days so don't know if that's still the case.

The announcement made me sad, but more for how Steven must feel. Steven's father was my HS music teacher and was the sweetest little man ever. He was so proud of his son and the band.

We had them come to the school a few times. Everyone thought they were all from Boston but Steven was from Yonkers NY. His dad was Victor Tallarico which Steven tweaked to Tyler. Lovely family

Love love love Steven and Aerosmith. I did some work with Janie’s Fund a few years ago. If you’re not familiar with Janie’s Fund, it raises money and partners with other organizations to assist abused young girls.

I’ve always loved his rocker/Bohemian vibe. Everything I’ve seen and heard, he’s a good man. Not perfect, none of us are.
