Fashion on QVC These Days..

I may or may not be in the minority with my feelings, but here goes. QVC has replaced esteemed fashioned designers, such as George Simonton, Bob Mackie and Louis Dell'Olio, in favor of tv celebrites or beauty queens, like Candace Bure, Lisa Rina or Kim Gravel.

These ladies, though popular in their own right, are not fashion designers. Never have been, never will be. They push clothing that is presented to them from various manufacturers, much like Valerie Parr Hill sells mass produced holiday decor from manufacturers in China or other countries.

This is my opinion only and nothing personal against these ladies, so those that love their clothing lines, great and enjoy! But for those like me, especially for the price of items these days, I would much rather invest in a piece of clothing from an established, well known designer.

Well said!! The prices are so high for all this stuff and quality is just not there. So much polyester! YUK!

Let's face it: each item of clothing has a "designer." Some are just well known and others may be a salaried employee. Personally, it doesn't matter to me if the designer is a known designer with their name attached to the article of clothing. I buy what I like, what is made of fabrics I like, what fits, what looks good on me, etc. I understand that we are all different and, for some, they prefer to buy from a line that's specifically marketed as a designer line. The clothing market is very large and can serve all of our preferences.

I think the push for Kim Gravel is probably a good financial package for QVC somewhat like Corky's who they now co-own.

Lisa Rinna & Candace are gone for various reasons but I'm guessing their financial relationship with QVC wasn't as beneficial.

Martha Stewart doesn't design she mentioned yesterday in her Christmas home show that her team designs, she approves.

Thinking talent in many fields isn't the same as it was in decades past.

I agree with you. @ciao_bella Keep in mind the designers you mention, along with real designers in general would be less lucrative for QVC. Kim, Valerie, etc. are QVC created. They would not be out in the retail world without QVC.

Kim is now in home and holiday. While there is nothing wrong with her stuff if that is what you like. There is nothing new or exciting.

They spread these vendors way too thin. We see it with Tara and temptations. She tried food and that failed. Now it’s garden, and appliances.

@rockygems123 @I think you are correct. I've often guessed that the product brands that allow QVC very high profit margins are the ones that get a lot of air time.....like, maybe Dyson, Philosophy, Kim Gravell, etc. Nothing wrong with that decision; that's just good business for Q. I understand why they'd do this. Sometimes doesn't make me, the customer, happy...but it's an understandable business decision.

Candace Cameron Bure? Lisa Rinna? They are both long gone.

Kim Gravel is a very popular "front" for her line. She has hinted many times that she is not a designer, but has a lot to say about the fit of a garment.

QVC has in-house groups of designers that work on many of these brands you see presented. They cater to what the Buyers want as the least risky, mass market design to sell to what they think is the typical QVC customer.

Like you said, unfortunately it's not about unique designs anymore, it's about numbers only. You have to go outside QVC to get truly unique designs.

I agree, I'm apparently not the typical QVC customer. I see so many of the same ol' same ol' designs being pushed across multi brands here. Show me a poncho type of cardigan or top, and I can mention at least five QVC brands presenting the same poncho type of thing. Been there, done that, but just modify the fabric or colors.

While I never wore Bob Mackie or George Simonton, at least they seemed to give customers something different.

What have I liked recently on QVC? Beautiful by George Zarian. But trust me, he'll probably not be here long either, unless he starts bringing 20 different versions of jeans and open knit cardigans.

I agree with OP.

Most of Q's current designers are contracted or owned by Q in a way that heavily benefits Q. That's why they're on air all the time.

IMO, reputable outside designers have seen the Q's fall over the last 10 years and don't want anything to do with them.

Q is trying to market to older women. I'm old and wouldn't be caught dead in 99% of their clothes. I don't wear all the plastic bags (what I call polyester) or so much spandex.

I run the other way when stars start hawking clothes, skin care, or anything else.

Yes, yes and yes! I so miss George Simonton, Bob Mackie, and other real designers. The clothing shown now (Anybody, CuddlDuds, Logo, etc.) seem slouchy and unpolished. And yes, that's just my opinion. Not to say they don't have their place in a woman's closet, but more so, the lack of real style and panache. So I agree with the OP.

I agree and miss the days of multiple talented and esteemed designers on QVC. I believe that there is one and only one reason. Money. It is much more profitable to sell brands that you own or partially own.

They clearly have chosen to go risk-averse. But has it been paying off for them? Quarate has had weak numbers for several quarters now. I don't know how much the fashion line(s) contributed to that, but certainly fashion represents a significant portion of their inventory.

I don't buy from any brand here anymore regardless if they are/were designers or wannabes. They are selling to the hundreds of thousands of people, their stuff is not unique, it maybe more expensive by slapping their name on it but really, it all is pretty much made anywhere but in the US--am sure there are a few exceptions--- but done soley to make those involved tons of $$$ .I have never bought any designer pieces. I have no need for that. To me designer is exclusive--just a few made, in the top fabrics , unique styles and mucho $$$. Like Tiffanys----I think I bought one vest by Bob Mackie--it had cats on it and was black. Thought it was cute for Halloween--I worked at a preschool so wore it for the few years I was there--I donated it.

As much as I agree with you, it's still about sales. QVC sells what makes the most money.

I'm thinking (but not sure) that some of the outside vendors have a contract for a certain amount of time. It could be their contracts ran our or they decided to no longer deal with QVC.

I so agree about the lack of true designers. All, or mostly all, of the 'celebs' are gone, fashion and otherwise. I never missed the like of Rachel Ray, Emeril, Bob Mackie, and designers. QVC was THE place for cutting edge product and fashion, now it is just another outlet, and overpriced for what it is offering.

The statement that the "designers" are just a face or name linked to a line is true. I doubt they actually design any of this.

The other day Lori from Logo acted surprised when she saw an item had pockets. She said, "oh, this has pockets" like she had never seen the item before.

I really doubt that they are sending things back over and over to be tweaked to perfection. LOL

What does it matter if they are designers or not? I designed a kitchen in a total remodel of my house at one time. I sure am not a kitchen designer but it turned out beautiful, had tons of storage, and lots of counter work space.

I have seen this complaint before and cant understand why it makes any difference. You either like their product and buy it or you dont like it and dont buy.

I do know that Kim has said she does not design she is more into the making of the garmet she sewed many of the dresses for the Miss Georgia and she even sewed her swim suit.

Lori is not designing her line at the time because she sold her company (or whatever) but she is trying to get it back. This is what I have read on these forums.

This is my point of view never have cared if my clothes were designer or not. I buy what I like.

Lifestyles ,are much more casual these days,just doubt many viewers would be buying the older designers of the past.
