Wildlife Enjoys Water

About 3:30 Mountain time, the wild horses walked up and went straight to the water area formed by the underground spring. Cars were stopping and watching the herd.

The horses moved onto the athletic field to run and race and frolic. They put on quite the show on the far side of the field.

We were watching them and then I heard a duck quacking. A mother duck and her six ducklings had taken the horses' place in the pond. I got a photo, I had to edit it to even see the ducks. It is fuzzy, but they were there.

As if on cue the ducks swam to the bank of the area, and the elk arrived. They jumped, bucked, splashed, and one just laid down like he really needed a bath.

Some tourists approached the elk, and they left because they have several baby calves. Nevertheless, in a matter of 20 minutes or so we saw everyone. As I post this the horses are still on the athletic field grazing.

@On It. Have you heard the weather report for the rest of the week? Doesn't sound good for more flooding in Ruidoso. They even said the chances are good for Albuquerque to get flooding too.

Sounds like lots of rain on the way.

@Kachina624 We have not had TV since Friday. I am checking apps. The Weather Channel shows significant chances of rain beginning late Wednesday through the remainder of the week and into next week.

They are moving people out of flood zones. Concrete barriers are in place to prevent driving into low areas. We are stocked on food. My concern is more people losing their homes to flooding. Homeowners doesn't cover that. It is going to be an ongoing battle for a long while.

We are in the Sacramento Mountains in Southern New Mexico. Four weeks ago we had two large forest fires. Now we are having flooding from the burn scars.

Many on here have been concerned about the wildlife after the fires. (I have posted pictures on several threads in the past.) I wanted everyone to see that they are thriving and a welcome distraction from the devastating fires and resulting floods.

Those are the most beautiful pictures. You are very fortunate to live so close to nature. Just to view that on a daily basis makes you smile. Where are you located?

survived the fires and floods.

It must be lovely, to be able to watch them all enjoying the water and the young ones playing.

What is wrong with people? Imagine approaching them and their babies!

I hope that you will be safe from any new flooding.

The herd left the athletic field and stopped in our next door neighbor's yard for a snack before going on up the mountain to spend the night.

We enjoyed watching them for a long while. They are so quiet. The sun was going behind the mountain when they finally left.

This was posted online. It was taken at the area you have often seen in my photos. Being at ground level makes a difference. My first thought was where was this taken? Then I realized where it was. LOL

@On It. Horses love to play in water. They can have fun with just a cup of it, splashing it all over. I bet elk do too.
