Sweaty Afternoon 😥

We got an alert from our power company that there would be a planned outage from 4:00 till 6:00. It was to address some problem I can't remember what . It is over 90 degrees so I got out my kindle and promptly fell asleep for an hour. The second hour was sweaty , but I read and the time passed. I know this is not a big deal , but I hate being hot and whenever we lose power ( not often ) I'm reminded how much we depend on electricity. Anyway thank goodness for naps and reading !

I'm in Arizona and we rarely have power outages. Fortunately any planned outage is in the winter.

@Meowingkitty I'm in the Northeast , so the winter would be uncomfortable, but better.

There are parts of the country that have restrictions on air conditioning and power this time of year because their governors have used some insane rationale that created this mess. Now that they are running out of power, some of the hot states have to give up their power so it can be shifted to the states whose governors are flaky.

Pity the poor people in South Texas who are in the sweatyest place on earth, and who may not have electricity for weeks. The place is a mess with those huge power towers down all over the place. I don't know how they're going to survive.

Hi, @QVCkitty1 ! My middle sister used to live in Sugarland, SE OF Houston. They had to evacuate due to hurricane Harvey back in the day. Fortunately, they've moved from there and are now in Sparks, NV near Reno.

Here in Vegas, it's just stupid HOT. Yesterday we hit a new record. Here's the headline from this morning's paper about the high yesterday.

I bet there are at least 15 states rolling in their big power trucks. Texas has always helped other states in crises and states are willing to pitch in and help them. People will suffer but as far as Texas and Florida, they usually get things up and going quickly.

Air conditioning (or, at the very least, fans) can be medically necessary, and for those who can't get to a place that has it they don't just "hate feeling hot".

There are ways to get a bit cooler at home, but high temperatures - especially combined with high humidity - is literally life threatening.

They're the ones I'm most concerned about.

@Greeneyedlady21 , My post was just a weather related slice of life, but I feel like I'm being shamed by some for not suffering enough. Sometimes it's just not worth it.

Wow! Talk about handy!

My power company has a volunteer program where they can cycle air conditioning up to 20 minutes an hour when usage is too great. Some years, it happens once, maybe twice. It hasn't happened so far this year but I expect it to given our ever increasing temps.

We get a credit on the October bill each year for volunteering.

The power grid in America is often unable to keep ip with demand. Is in need of a massive upgrade.
