Coyote Super Highway

Here's how coyotes travel in my neighborhood. The ugly cement block fences are very common, the coyotes easily jump up on them which allows easy access to multiple back yards.

Wow. Who would have guessed they'd turn the cement fences into a coyote freeway. Dangerous for backyard pets.

There was a news story the other day, on KTLA channel 5, which had a woman walking her medium sized dog for an evening walk. A pack of coyotes came towards her growling. Which, as far as I know is pretty unusual. I am guessing they were hungry.

She ran screaming with her dog. Luckily, a random neighbor heard her screaming, opened her door and allowed her and the dog to run in. It was all caught on the neighbors security camera.

We have had a family of them down at the very end of our property for a few years, they howl at sundown and my blood runs cold. My neighbor keeps a donkey specifically to keep them at bay. So many in our area are missing 'outdoor' and 'indoor/outdoor' cats . . . sadly I doubt they will ever come home.

My daughter's neighborhood has an alert system-emails go out as soon as someone sees a coyote and to bring pets inside.

They are so scary but I also wish they had their own place to live and thrive without hurting domestic animals or humans.

@on the bay. Coyotes move very fast. By the time people react to an alarm, they are long gone. We get those "alarms" too, on the NextDoor app but they're useless.

By the way, my Boston friend says she has even seen them on the beach on Cape Cod. They're everywhere now.

These aren't next door apps. They are emails throughout the community and they are effective here. It is a really close community of neighbors who know each other.

We have one coyote who is seen in the woods occasionally. People bring their pets in if they are even out and children come in.

We don't have lots of coyotes though.

We experienced coyotes leaping onto our six foot concrete fence when we lived in AZ. It was scary to take the dog out in the backyard at night. Their howling is disturbing 😳

This happened in my neighborhood, the next block over from me.

The coyotes had made a den under the house of the woman who the other woman in.

Coyotes can scale a 6ft wall/fence. You have to put rollers or spikes on top to deter them.

We got our first donkey (mini) to keep coyotes away. They make great "alarms".

My uncle has been talking about getting a donkey to help with the coyote problem. He raises cattle and they can really take down more than you'd think.

I'll have to tell him that you've been having success with the donkey.❤️
