This is why you're charged for paper statements...

I had to share my laugh with everyone today. I had the best time when my Regional Manager and my Sales Manager came walking into my office completely embarrassed.

Both of them are close to 30 and they were completely embarrassed but professional enough to ask this GenXer how to mail an envelope.

The Sales Manager had written the addressee on the return address corner and left the rest of the envelope blank.

I took one of my premade return company labels and showed him that our address went there as the return and then placed a stamp on the envelope in the other corner because the USPS doesn't deliver for free.

Email free. Paper, not free.

I then saved them a trip to the post office and made their day by telling them to pull out the red flag on our mailbox and that would notify the mail person to pick up their envelope after they addressed it in the middle.

Maybe. I think our mail person is their age since I've had mail sit in our company box even with the flag out from time to time.

Anyway, you now all owe me your $1.50 per mailing for the twenty minutes of my life I can't get back teaching grown adults how to address an envelope but am having the time of my life chuckling over it.

As I told them, if you don't know, you don't know! Kudos for asking and learning at any age! Some of us older folks need to do the same with tech.

is this a joke ? are you really saying they didn't know how to address and mail a envelope ? 30 yr olds ? Just want to make sure I read correctly. Thanks

@Laura14. I hate to say this but it appears you company hires some idiots. You'd think they'd pick up up a little knowledge simply by observing mail they receive at home as well as at work.

@Laura14 is not the sort of person who'd weave a wild tale. I've read her posts for years. She's not a big attention-seeker. Considering the common sense, or lack thereof, I see in the younger generations, I have faith in her story.

Oh I believe it! When I was working, sometimes the questions I got asked by very intelligent high-level partners at the Firm, would make me shake my head in disbelief.

Oh my goodness !!! Well I've heard everything ! At 73 I didn't know something like that was possible ! I also found out recently that my grandson's school ( he's going into the 3rd grade next school session starting in August) will no longer teach cursive writing ! How are these young people going to sign their name to important documents as they become adults ? Buying a home etc ? Will printing out their name vs writing be exceptable ?

@Goodie2shoes our schools stopped long ago. My niece had trouble reading the note my mom put in her birthday card. And yes, our applications do have printed signatures for some of the younger people.

@Kachina624 I agree although I think it was performance anxiety. When you have never really done it and are doing something for the first time, good for them for asking, especially for a business communication.

So this means they have also never seen a piece of mail. Grandma never sent them a birthday card, etc. Scary that they are managers.

@Goodie2shoes I don't doubt her story for one second. We had an employee in his late 20's who had no clue how to address an envelope. Even after I showed him, he still did it wrong.

Also, I go to the post office 5 times a week for my job. I can not believe some of the dumb questions that people ask. I remember one guy went up to the clerk to ask how to mail clothes. The clerk, whom I know well, started by saying, slowly, "Get a box." LOL. I have heard other people ask if they can write the ship to address directly on the box they are mailing. I truly believe there is no such thing as a dumb question. But, people who ask can be dumb, momentarily anyway.

@Wsmom Grandma undoubtedly sent them a birthday card but you can bet they never sent her a "thank you" note.

When we rented an apartment a few years ago, the leasing agent was impressed we knew how to write out a check. He said the younger people have no clue. So as far fetched as it sounds, I believe the OP. I'm surprised they even know how to write (print??) since everything is done with their thumb on their phone--LOL!!!!

Oh, I believe it! My husbands niece came to visit recently; early 20's. I have a large clock with hour, minute, and second hands, on the living room wall and she cannot tell time that way, never had a watch; she had to look at her cell phone. She does not know how to write a check. The only phone she knows how to use is a cell phone. Days before she was here was the first time she'd ever seen a mercury thermometer.
