National Police Week

Honoring our police officers this week. I live in a relatively small town but remember four officers who were killed in our town in my grown-up lifetime. These law enforcement personnel face hidden dangers every time they go out, things we can't even imagine, all the while trying to keep themselves and those in danger under calm control. I don't have much contact with them other than my neighbors; I know that whatever I'm asked of by them if in emergency situations that I should comply. I hold them to the highest regard and appreciate them keeping law abiding citizens safe. I always say a little prayer when I see them pull someone over on our streets, not knowing if they face danger. If you have anyone in LE, please know I'm praying for their safety every day.

We had two officers killed in my town a month ago. They went to the house to check out something that wasn't right and they were both shot and killed. The shooter was killed as well. One officer was 37 with three small children and the other officer was 29. They had both funerals televised and I couldn't stop crying for days.

Thank you to our police officers!

We had our state and local police memorial services last week. My sister attended both. She is retired from our local police department. When she graduated from the academy in the late 1970s, she was the second woman on the police force.

Even though she's retired, she's still very involved with the organization. She is the editor of the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) publication about news and events. She goes to meetings and conferences around the state and country. She also organized Special Olympics events and fundraisers sponsored by our local police.

My great grandfather was a city police officer.

He is listed on the Officer Down website.

A big thank you to all of the police officers out there. They put their lives on the line for us everyday and are often treated horribly with blatant disrespect. It has to be very difficult for them to do their jobs when the criminals seem to have all the rights. I'm sure it takes a toll on their families as well.

The police have my sympathy during this time because there are so many protests at universities. Hopefully they won't get hurt trying to control the "demonstrations".

During a riot, police were beaten and maimed by thugs who have now been convicted and imprisoned. What a slap in the face to all law emforcement to talk of pardoning those criminals. Even worse to deify them with videos and social media promotion. Talk about zero respect.

Please continue to pray for all Law Enforcement. My daughter and. Son in law are Chicago Police Officers. We too lost another officer in April. He was ambushed coming home from his shift. Fourth funeral in three years. Breaks my heart.
They work hard, and they get very little support. Yet, when people are in crisis... they dial 911.

Just the other day the radio station I listen to was broadcasting the wife of a fallen police officer talking at his funeral. It was heartbreaking. Her husband and her got in an argument that morning and that was the last time they spoke. Her friend told her officers had been shot and she kept calling her husband but got no answer. I don’t know how she got through her eulogy without falling apart.
