Once again,Garage Sales

In the past,I would never look at clothes at GS,but so far this year and last year great deals. Usually these are new products (clothing) and never returned. This year (so far) I found a J.Crew turtle neck for a dollar.

We love going saleing. It is kind of our retirement hobby.

I always launder (after removing tags) and if it is a poor fit just donate.

On another sad note: some members of my extended family would donate but remove buttons,etc. I WILL NOT donate something like that.

Here in my area of New Jerey, prior to the pandemic, garage and yard sales were everywhere on weekends starting from early spring right through until late October or November.

Last year, hardly ever saw signs for garage or yard sales, and this year, so far, seems to be the same. Not sure why they haven't populated again, but it is a noticable observation that they haven't been around.

My late husband enjoyed going to them on weekends and would always find something he liked or needed (or didn't need..lol) Me, yard and garage sales never appealed to me.

I enjoy going to estate sales near me. I am always interested in things an older person would have. My weakness is vintage dishes and Corningware. I like some Pyrex too. I try to stay away as I do not need nor do I have room for more!🤣🤣🤣

I just found a Dooney purse at a yard sale a few weeks ago. I love going to a good yard/garage sale. In the past I have found some nice jewelry pieces. When my grandkids were small we had the best time. We called it treasure hunting lol. They would find some nice little toys the kids at the sale had out grown. Nothing wrong with the toys.

Just like thrift shops and Goodwill, they are a no for me.

I do donate to the thrift shop and Goodwill because I have no interest in holding a yard or garage sale.

I don't think I have been to more than 2 garage/yard sales in my life--just don't want anymore stuff nor do I need it. Had one in my yard that was a pretty good success --for the gal that helped me with it--my kids made a few $$ for their outgrown toys but she made hundreds of $$ mostly from her hubbies old tools--it was so much work too. I donate to local charities and churches.

I just moved, but I'm donating. Not sure I have the patience for a garage sale. Put $1 on something and they want it for $.50. I would rather donate it, than have that. That's just me though. The money would be nice, but not worth the time and energy spent, just my opinion.

A previous coworker, their whole neighbor does a whole street Garage sale in the early fall. The kids have fun, make a few dollars. Her young son used to have a snack table, and everyone would buy from him. Cookies, chips, lemonade and water. He's quite the entertainer. They at least got the good traffic as it was 10-15 houses in their neighborhood participating in the sale. They made it an annual event. They had fun, then many of the couples and families would go out for pizza. They made it a fun day.

I don't usually go to garage sales because I don't need anything else in our house. At our age, we don't need any of the children's merchandise that many of them sell. Many of the other items are similar to those we already have.

I've only sold stuff through yard sales twice - one through our church and the other with friends. Neither was worth it. In both cases, the payback didn't begin to cover the level of effort to prepare for the sales. In the sale with 4 of my friends, I was shocked at how cut-throat 2 of them became during the sale. We anticipate moving in the next few years and will donate anything we don't take with us.

We lived in a gated community in Texas. Garage sales were so much fun! I never had enough to have my own, but I always took some things to a friend's home and helped there. We had a preview night for the community Friday night, then the guard would let cars in around 8 a.m. Saturday. The older children sold refreshments and handed out water, and there were designated "bathroom" houses on each street. We always had a crowd!

Our neighborhood here used to have them, but no longer. So I help twice a year with our church's rummage sales. We have someone new in charge, and she is "in charge"! LOL! We are instructed to toss any clothes with stains or missing buttons. It makes sense, and I always did this anyway. I think the donors should have done that before they left the clothes. We are always saying "someone will get a good buy." This year we had a hand painted, and signed by the artist, chair.

We get new handbags all of the time, along with well-loved ones. This past sale, just a few weeks ago, we had a new Patricia Nash one. Some of us knew what it was, and one of the team looked it up, but they still marked it $25. I was tempted, but the pattern was the same that's on of the few that I have! Most bags, including a lot of Coach and Dooney, are marked $10-$15.

One year we had a complete set of china, service for 12, in excellent shape. It was made in France. I convinced our administrative assistant to remove them and try to sell them separately. (She sold on eBay herself.) She did and was able to get quite a nice sum that was used for our youth mission trip.

In the neighborhood I lived in 10 years ago the whole neighborhood had an annual yard sale. I loved them as I could unload a lot of stuff particularly items that my young children grew out of - toys clothes equipment. I usually donated the proceeds to Habitat for Humanity or the Local Foodbank. I had a couple on my own when we sold my parents house and our current house so that we could buy a bigger house for my dad to move into with us. They were also productive.

I now live in a neighborhood that never has yard sales and I miss using them to get rid of my unwanted or unused stuff.

I live too far in the country to get a whole lot of traffic. I can remember having one while in college. A local business woman allowed my friend and I to use the large backyard area of her store for the weekend. I made almost $500 on just my own old clothes! That was in the 90s too! Boy, did that money sure come in handy!😃🌸

Our HOA doesn't allow garage sales, I use to go with some neighbors long ago before kids when we lived in another area. It was kind of fun but I don't need anyone else's "stuff".

I love them. I have found many new and unused items through the years.

If I come across one and it looks decent I will stop. It doesn't hurt to look.

A beloved relative was so out spoken about so much. GS were one thing and she always said,"Never be too proud".

She also talked about things that were middle class. A friend commented that he had worked hard just to become middle class.

You would love living where I live. My husband signed up for estate sale listings near and far. There is always one to go to. I have never seen so many dishes. Just glanced at an upcoming estate sale and there is at least 4 different china settings and then there is a Christmas dish setting and, of course, more casual dishes. I see Corningware and Purex a lot.

Many years ago my had a community garage sale it was s fun event I had lost weight at the time and sold a whole wardrobe full of Susan Graver and all sorts of OVC clothes. I had one women practically buy me out. I did nt keep the money I sent it as a contribution to Susan G Komen
