Gigantic TVs

I now realize why everyone wants these big TVs. I'm watching QVC now and there are so many pictures within the picture you can hardly see the item being sold. Perhaps this has been discussed, so apologies for repeating.

@coffee drinker you're not alone. I have 85" tv and the screen on QVC is still crowded😉

Too much going on that you're right it's hard to "focus" on the product.

It drives me crazy so I hardly watch Q anymore. I thought it was just me!!!

For me it's not all about the big size but the quality of the picture. Mine is an OLED type and it is mind-blowing especially with the AI built into it...omg.

@coffee drinker I agree. The QVC pop-up that is so irritating to me is on now during the SG show, Down to Earth, with the PJD photo. It stays on forever in the lower right hand corner. It especially blocks views of shoes when the camera goes to the floor to show the host, vendor, or models' feet.

I have a 19 inch old tv. lol. I don't like them too large. I hate to see every pore on face, lol. Bad Fung Shui, lol Also, for me I have smaller family room, it's too much, too distracting. I listen to tv sometimes rarely watch anything on it all the way. Odd duck here, lol

I was watching a show on CBS the other night on my little old-fashioned 14" TV set, and there were all these CBS ads and garbage popping up and running across the screen I could barely see the show. It was horrible. I guess they figure that everyone has giant screens so why not make use of it and run ads on top of TV shows.

I love to watch movies. I hardly ever watch shopping etc. and rarely have the TV on during the day other than some news in the morning. A large screen really is so much better. It is one of the things I would never deny myself the pleasure of having.

About 7 years ago I won a 52" Samsung Flat TV screen on a raffle ticket at work, it's set up in our den it's the right size and good enough for us, no interest in anything larger.

We have a 65" which is the perfect size for the family room. I only really watch that TV with D H when we're watching a movie or game.

A lot of the time if I have the T V on in either the kitchen, bedroom or my office, it's a much smaller TV.

TV prices have dropped so much that it's getting a bit crazy. I'm upgrading from my seven (maybe eight?) year old 55" HDTV to a larger one in July (maybe on Prime Day?) for the new football season. I'm debating between a 65" or a 75". You can get either size for under $500 now. I can just squeeze in a 75" one but I'm not sure it's worth the $100+ extra over a comparable 65" one. It's a question I'll be debating between now and then.

@gardenman We went through this "debate" in November 2022. We had a, I think, 42" screen. Our living room is 20 ft. long and we sit probably 16 ft. away from the TV. I wanted a bigger screen simply so I could see it better! After looking at the same sizes you are (our wall space could easily accomodate either one), we went with the 65". It's perfect for us! Honestly, I think the 75" would have overwhelmed the room--though I might've gotten it anyway if we'd had a separate "TV Room".

The only thing I wish we'd done differently was stick with the Vizio brand. The new one is a Samsung, and we have some "freezing" issues that I didn't know were an issue with this brand until after we bought it. It's not a huge deal, but it's occasionally annoying!

My husband really wanted a bigger TV -- we have a 65 inch in the main room and I thought it was fine. I ended up measuring and a 77 inch would just fit. We found a good deal on a Samsung and I have to admit I love the 77 inch. Not only is it wider but it also adds the height which makes a big difference. We watch a lot of TV. We live in a rural area and maybe only go to a movie once a year so we watch the movies on our TV. It was a splurge but I really like it.

@newjersey I like my 32 inch too. Personally I think the huge TVs are obnoxious.

My BIL got the biggest TV I've ever seen for his not very big family room. It sticks out like a sore thumb. He is in front of that thing from the time he gets up to when he goes to bed.

The OLED models are pretty steady in price. For me, the difference in picture quality (blacker blacks mostly) isn't worth the difference in price. Burn-in is more of an issue with OLED HDTVs but is improving. An OLED HDTV is often better, but I don't find the difference to be enough to me to justify the extra cost. Plain old LED HDTVs have dropped a lot in price. My first 40" HDTV cost over $600 and had no extra features. Comparable HDTVs today cost $200-$300. I can get a pretty good 65" HDTV for around $350 and up. A 75" HDTV for $500 or so. My first ever TV was a 19" black and white TV from WT Grants many, many years ago. Times have changed.
