Misreading Something

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but today I had one of those "OH-H" moments.

I have my favorite lines from QVC, and I may or may not pay attention to new-to-QVC lines when they show up.

Not that long ago (I think) MacKenzie-Childs came to QVC. I had never heard of the line. I scrolled through more than once, all the while wondering why QVC would sell beautiful china pieces meant for CHILDREN! Oh well. DD DID receive two miniature china tea sets when she was young.

As I said I looked through the items more than once. And I thought two things: it's expensive and I won't be tempted by it.

It wasn't until this afternoon, when I noticed the pretty cake plate on the home page, that a lightbulb went off. This line isn't for children; the word "childs" is part of the name! LOL!

Have you ever misread or misinterpreted something?

Yes, they do sell these " Child size " tea sets for children along with rattles, sippy cups and maybe a few other items . Their website has hundreds of pieces. Their yearly barn sale at their Ny location has hundreds of pieces.

This wasn't a misreading but a good friend was getting coffee at Starbucks. When the barista asked "size"? She thought she said Sides and was excited and said OH! You have sides now. I'll take a cookie.

Many many years ago, my friend and I took a little vacation and while traveling we had several tolls, one had a sign a few miles back to alert you of the toll of 25 cents ahead, when we got to the toll my friend said the toll is a quarter, I thought the sign said 25 cents. We still laugh about that, and it was the highlight of our travel.

@beach-mom, I've pretty much always shied away from anything that's super popular.

To that point, years ago, one day after leaving the employee cafe, I snapped at no one in particular "I'm so sick of hearing about DOWNTOWN Abbey!"

A young coworker laughed & said "Not downtown! It's Downton!"

I felt like an idiot.

Oh yes--more times than I care to admit to. Am trying to be better at reading the small print on everything now.

Yes, it happens more now that I'm older and my vision isn't 20/20. I realize how often I scan-read, so I've had double-takes when what I read didn't make sense, like reading "panty" for "pantry."

My mistakes are often with pronunciation. Right before a trip to New Orleans, I told DH we had to try “beg- NETS” and looked up where to get them. Fortunately the website showed the correct pronunciation before I went and ordered them! 😆

One other was when I stopped eating meat and wanted to try “FAL -a - fel. I was given the correct pronunciation by my coworker who was laughing hysterically. 😆😆😆
