Ok so after 50 years of running, I have had minor aches but this one got me. I ran a 5K with my 7 months pregnant daughter about 2 weeks ago. She is running slow considering the bulk she's carrying. We ran it at a 12 pace, which is my slow pace lately but that's ok...I'm out there. Uggh went to ortho today and he said while you're in great shape, that knee is swollen and yeah...painful. So while it is not a permanent fix, I did get a cortisone shot, he said to NOT RUN (omg) for at least two weeks, but walking ok along with exercises he gave me. I switched to a treadmill, running every other day, about 6 months ago and I think it was the pounding on the asphalt that did me in.

The cortisone is already working but yes, I know take it slow and follow doc orders. It typically heals on it's own if I don't aggravate it. I don't do well sitting still.

It's all these little (or big) things which are seemingly come out of no where and planting themselves in our bodies that we simply aren't used to having and frankly don't like! Take a moment, complain about it, get that out of your system, and use your down time to do something else you need/want to get done. It's A LOT easier said than done, and I have trouble taking my own advice when it comes to sitting, but it comes with time going by. Things inevitably come up, so a little down time adjustment helps your mind and body heal. So good luck healing up nicely, and good luck with adjusting. Oh - good luck with your daughter's pregnancy too!

Nope! Never do lifelong running! It's bound to come back and haunt you! I'm an avid walker, that's all I do is power walk. A big NO on running. It's too hard on the knees.I just turned 70 and my Fitbit has recorded that I walked over 1,700 miles last year in 2023. Switch to walking. JMO

After many years of running, two foot surgeries and painful knees, I had to give it up.

The woman I ran with at work was a marathoner and 10 years older than me...we would put in 6-8 miles daily at lunch time. Then 8-10 miles on weekends.

Eventually, I switched to fast walking, then bought a spin bike and do that.

Some can run forever, but I had to finally let it go. No, I wasn't happy, but eventually, you just have to know when to say enough.

Running is excellent cardiovascular exercise at the proper weight, with the proper form, and with the prober shoes. In fact, running can decrease one's likelihood of arthritis. I know people much older that you who enjoy running as much as you enjoy walking.
