Dirty Job

Well I killed a mouse tonight. It's an old house and from time to time one of these disgusting creatures shows up. I usually outsource the elimination of the mouse, but I'm on my own tonight and I couldn't stand the thought of this creature roaming around. So I baited the trap with peanut butter and put it near where last I saw the mouse. It worked and I kind of felt bad for a nanosecond. I'm weirdly proud of myself for taking care of the problem, so if you are still reading , thanks for indulging me,🐭

Good for you @QVCkitty1 . You are very brave. I hate to say this, but you should put out another trap. There is rarely just one. Just to give yourself a little reassurance.

@QVCkitty1 Unfortunately, I have experienced what @Lilysmom1 said. At one point, my DH put out trap after trap. I couldn’t believe how many were caught! We live near a field so may that’s why. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you still have "visitors", have someone ( maybe an exterminator, check all around the outside of the house to find entry points. It is amazing how small an opening to our eyes can be....yet they manage to squeeze through, especially when the weather gets colder. Then have the entry points sealed, esp. around spigots.

If you store stuff opened, they will crawl in and build a nest there. I once had a large zippered flip chart carrier stored flat on a shelf in the basement. When I went to use it, there was a crinkled mess of paper in one corner...an empty nest ! I had to clean and sanitized the carry case.

@jklz Yikes! Thanks for that suggestion. We still have a trap set but nothing caught for a while now after the 6-8 in a row. 😬

Many years ago, there was an awful smell in my car. I searched and searched, thinking food had dropped or something. It just persisted and was driving me nuts. I finally had my DH start pulling out the door panels to see what it could be. After “tearing” the car apart, don’t you know there was a dead mouse in a nest behind my radio made out of all the napkins I kept in my glove box?! I no longer keep napkins in my glove box. L O L.

One thing I find that helps is toss the trap, mouse and all. Then you don't have to touch the mouse, and those traps don't cost that much.

@depglass , And that is exactly what I did. I have one of those grabber sticks and I grabbed the trap and into a trash bag it went.

I haven't had a mouse in here in several years, but I use the no kill trap. I used peanut butter to catch it and then taped the door shut and drove it down to the end of the street and left it out in the field.

I'm always so conflicted when I have a visiting rodent. Thankfully, it's a rare occasion, but it has happened.

I'm the type who wants all creatures to live out their life cycle, in peace, as all have their purpose, but not in my house. So it hurts me to have to eliminate them. But, you do what you have to do, if there's a health risk.

You'll probably think I'm crazy, but I give them a burial in my backyard, with some kind words. Even so, I'm always left with mixed feelings.

And then said mouse turned around and ran right back up the street into your house again when you weren't looking.😉🐀

Very impressive! We had a mouse once and we caught in trap also. I wasn’t as brave as u. Lol

While I am cautious to nudge aggressive living creatures out the door whenever possible, I rely on them to know the current facts ..... Breaking and Entering is a crime. You did what you had to do.

We get them once in a while in the winter..As I've said I live at the edge of the woods.

DH insisted we buy a "humane" trap/basket...The seem to love dry cat food.

We may be catching the same one more than once..DH lets them go..I should have tags on them..LOL..Lived in NYC most of my life and never had one in any place we lived!

A while ago..we had a baby squirrel..It must have gotten in with the doors open when we were bringing in groceries..Glad my DS was visiting...he caught it in a container and took way up into the woods.
