There have been times when I'd consider it an excellent suggestion. However, I imagine parents would be angered, at least those with no sense of humor.

I used to go to a beach town in Maine for several years and there were a number of restaurants that had signs regarding children.

They ranged from "We welcome well behaved children"

to "Unsupervised children will be given away to Gypsies"

The message was the same even if the delivery was vastly different.

As someone who comes from a huge family that has always had a large number of young children among it's number, and also as someone who has had several meals in restaurants spoiled by free-range brats....

I can honestly say I appreciate both sentiments!

The shop is telling potential customers, in an amusing way, they are not child friendly.

If I had children with me, I would pass it by.

I think they are alienating some customers but it is their shop, their rules.

I would love to take my 3 yr. old Chocolate Lab "puppy" for a visit. I am sure everyone would enjoy his company.

@Kachina624 Your post reminded me when I first traveled around Europe during the late 60s early 70s. Mothers would leave their BABIES in prams, strollers, etc OUTSIDE the store while they were shopping inside w/their pet dogs. And they took their good old time too!

I think that they are trying to show people how some pet owners find it offensive when pets aren't allowed in certain places. It is like saying "How would you like it if someone said that your child wasn't allowed in here?" Some people see their pets as children.

I am surprised by how many people with their dogs are in stores these days. It seems like this happened in the last few years.

Home Goods and TJ Maxx are notorious for dogs in the cart or the larger ones walking on a leash. I witnessed dogs barking at other customers while trying to shop.

Technically, these stores sell "food" so the dogs should not be allowed in. It seems people working in the stores say nothing to those bringing their pets with them so they continue to do so.

I guess this a new thing now.

@Mz iMac. It would be about 2 minutes and someone would be yelling, "child abuse"!

I recall seeing pictures of those prams outside of stores.

It is funny.

I also thing most people who take their dogs into a store or restaurant have well behaved dogs.

Now children on the other hand you cannot always say the same about! Sometimes there are just places that some esp young children shouldn't go until their parents are able to teach them how to behave well in public places and when they are able to understand.

I should know, I have 3. One we knew we wouldn't be eating out for awhile lol!

I was in a store (won't say which one)that had a very unruly child. The store manager said to the parent,if they couldn't control their child they would have to leave.

@Mersha Not only in stores but in airports. DH and I fly fairly frequently and there are always several dogs in the airport--some supposedly "therapy dogs" but many are not. I feel sorry for the dogs especially the larger ones. Never saw this years ago.

I have a sense of humor but I also respect and love children,especially my own, too much to think a joke tying them to a pole is funny.

If I had kids with me I would not shop there nor would I go in any business with an attitude about children. Our local museum was that way, did not want kids in the gift shop area looking around. I left and never went back. You dont' want my kids? I don't want you.
