Poems For Spring

Here are two more poems that I wrote years ago:

Death of Winter; Birth of Spring

Winter is dying slowly with every passing day.

The melting snow, once pure and white, now is turning

gray.

From the roof, the icy fingers melt and drip to the earth

below,

To sink in and nourish new life beginning to grow.

The warmth of the sun overcomes the cold,

In the air is new freshness and secrets untold.

Promises of Spring are foreshadowed without sound,

By a little patch of sunlight on the cold bare ground.

On the bare gray branches, little buds swell,

Keeping secrets they're bursting to tell.

Inside the beauty of Spring must hide,

Until all traces of Winter subside.

Brown grass lies dormant beneath the snow,

It slowly revives and begins to grow.

The crisp green blades will stand proud and tall,

To sing songs of Spring to one and all.

The crocus is the first to sing,

Her lovely praises to the birth of Spring.

Dawn

Blankets of darkness cover the sky.

At dawn the dark blankets fold slowly back,

To reveal what was hidden under the black.

Light starts to fill in the empty space,

The blue sky is trimmed with hot pink lace.

The sun warms the earth that was cold in the night,

A nice warm beginning for a day to be bright.

@ahoymate These are from my collection of poems that I started writing when I was in high school. Some were published in the American Anthology of High School Poetry, after I won a few poetry contests.

More of my poetry has been published since then. I have not been inspired to write in recent years. But, I'm beginning to share my poetry. My five children have not seen my poetry. Maybe they will discover my little book after I'm gone. Maybe they will want to publish it.

Some of my writings are rather dark and there are love poems too. People and things in nature inspire me, I wish that I could get inspired again.

A few months ago, I did post a few here, "Country Store",

"Winter Silver", "Snowflake"and the last poem that I wrote, several years ago, "Celestial Diamonds".

The two Spring poems, I wrote about 20 years ago.

Thank you very much. I don't know if this has happened to others, but now in my 70s, I just don't feel as creative as I once did, even in my 50s-60s.

Even the Toni Doll dresses that I post, I made and sold online, more than 15 years ago and I never kept any for my poor naked dolls. I just have the pictures in my files.

There is a big stash of fabric, lace and trims, but I just need to get motivated. I want to re -create some of the cute dresses that I wore in the 50's when I was little.

I retired the week before everything shut down with Covid. I have been somewhat reclusive ever since.

Fortuntely, I never got sick, but I seem to have lost my

spark. I need a kick start, or maybe just push myself.

The interest is there, I just need to do it, I feel stuck.

Maybe, getting out in the Spring sunshine or sitting by the ocean will inspire me to write again.

There is a little lonesome dove that I see, when I feed our outside critters. For 40 years, we have always seen the doves in pairs. A couple of months ago, next to the birdbath, was a pile of feathers. I think that a hawk took the mate of our dove. I might like to write about that, hoping that a new mate will be found.

What beautiful poems, I am impressed by your creativity !!! I love to write also and while I still do, I have lost some of my spark also.

You are very talented, the Toni fashions you made, your poetry. It is never too late to revive that spark and continue writing! Also you should show your children your works. I am sure they would be proud. Thanks for sharing your talents, it is uplifting and a gift.

Your poems bring back to me my previous life where I saw four seasons.

I will always miss my home there and I am now unable to return.

So, your poems bring to me the images of my childhood. That's how graphic they are.

No, he didn't write it. It's a real poem.

@Flatbush I'm happy that my poems evoke pleasant memories of your childhood home.

As a lifelong resident of New England, I enjoy the changing seasons and look forward to the beauty in each one. Nature has been my inspiration in writing and in painting.

Since I was very young, I have been fascinated by the beauty in a snowflake and the excitement of that first winter snow each year. I have a book of Wilson Bentley's snowflake photography, it is amazing. Christmas and Valentine's Day are the highlights of the winter. Sledding and ice skating have always been children's favorite winter activities. No school, snow days were special too.

Being a May baby, spring has always been my favorite season.

I love seeing everything turning green again, all the colors of the gorgeous spring flowers and hearing the birds singing.

Easter and rebirth, baby chicks and bunnies, dressing my five children in new outfits for church on Easter Sunday, making Easter baskets for them made spring a special time.

Living near the ocean, summer meant vacation, beach days,

hearing the sounds of the surf, the sounds of the children playing in the water and running and playing in the sand, making sand castles and finding shells,relaxing in the sun, tanning and that delicious scent of Bain de Soleil and summer beach music.

Picking berries, making pies, having picnics and barbecues, taking the children for ice cream and shopping for their school clothes were our summer activities.

Autumn leaves being painted by nature's paintbrush, bring so many visitors to our area each year. The colors are gorgeous and it is rather sad to see the leaves dry up and fall to the ground. But Halloween has always been fun with the costumes and all the treats. It has always been my children's favorite holiday. I made it fun for them.

Living next to Salem (witch city) Halloween is really big around here. So many people come here during the Halloween season. People now decorate almost as much as they do for Christmas and people flock to Salem for all the festivities and events. We don't go there this time of year, it's too crowded.

Thanksgiving has always been a favorite holiday in the autumn.

Where did you live, where you had four seasons?

@Enufstuff Wow, my forum friend! Thank you so very much for sharing your poems! You are truly such a gifted, intelligent, artistic and insightful lady! It was such a treasure and honor to read these- you paint pictures with your words and captured the mystery and beauty of the transitions and little and big changes from winter to spring and dusk to dawn .I loved the imagery of the icicles melting and how you described them as "icy fingers". The fact that the "beauty of spring must hide until all traces of winter subside"- wow, that is beautiful, Enufstuff! So many great lines and Dawn is so perfectly put- " Light starts to fill in the empty space. The blue sky is trimmed with hot pink lace." I just love that .
