Ladies Wigs - recommendations or experiences

I was thinking I might like to try a wig but do not want to just jump in with one of the higher priced ones. Has anyone tried Raquel Welch wigs or another brand you might want to recommend?

I don't have a wig, genea, but I've heard good things about Raquel Welch wigs and I don't think they're all that expensive, either. Good luck with your search!

Hi Genea, I have worn wigs steadily for 25 years. I have fine, thin, limp hair and it is just a whole lot easier to wear a wig. I have ordered various brands from Paula Young, but have gone to an actual wig store for the past several wigs because the lady will trim a new wig as needed. Here is what I know. Most wigs are synthetic and you cannot apply or be near heat. Even the sun for an extended time will start damaging the fibers and, in time, make the color funky. Secondly, new wigs are always too shiny. That makes them look "wiggy" for sure, in my opinion. I always wear a new wig at home for several times and use hair spray in it to tame it down. I also tease mine some for a better shape. I haven't found a huge difference between brands, other than the netting, but that is just my experience. Hope this helps

I bought 2 Raquel Welch wigs on sale about 3 years ago. I do not wear them much, but they have held up really well sitting in a box! They are of very good quality, and when you can find them on sale, they are very affordable. The website from which I ordered mine is www.wigsalon.com. Her wigs can be found on sale from $135 all the way up to $500 or more at full price. I think you would really like a wig from her line.

The names of the 2 Raquel wigs that I have are "Voltage" and "Salsa." The Salsa is really thick hair!

I bought two recently by Noriko and they are so much like human hair in texture and weight and not shiny at all, right out of the box....just a little fringe cut in the front, and that's it. I get so many compliments, From men and women both ...it's so much fun, to have such natural looking hair that I AM 100% confident to walk out the door and go anywhere in, unlike wigs of past years? I am so happy to finally have beautiful hair that is so quick and easy .HTH. P.S.....I have hereditary baldness.

Azcowgirl.....when I was working and woke up too late to wash and dry my long hair I sometimes wore a Noriko wig. They are beautiful just as you say. This is what I wore and I still have but never wear anymore except to try on for fun.

Hi foundnlv....OMG,I have that exact one as well !!! I just love it, so natural looking, isn't it ? and it's one of the most throw on and go styles , I have ever worn IMO.

I have 2 wigs from Paula Young from the "color me beautiful" collection and love them; not shiny, etc. Also, TWC (The Wig Company) has a good, quality collection with affordable prices and sales.

I have an Iman wig and its light and I love it and I don't wear a cap with it. I get alot of compliments when I tell them its a wig!!

I think it is one of their best too.....and I bought mine at a wig shop, so I paid more for it than if I had ordered online, but it was worth it to me to be able to try different styles and colors etc....and may I add, I have kept a record of the number of wearings, and the cost per wearing turned out to be pennies per day which I'm happy about....the quality is good , and they last a long time if care is taken to carefully comb out tangles and wash and condition with good wig products.

I wore a wig after chemo and always felt like it was creeping up. When I loosened it, it felt like it was moving.

It is a good idea to measure your head and get the right size wig. They make the wig in sizes of Small, Medium and Large. After measuring my big head (cough), I decided to go with the Large size and it has worked out great! I had rather it be a bit too big than too small. Just an idea to keep in mind as you prepare to order.

I have worn wigs for a long time. I used to sell them back in the 90's. I have one Revlon wig I really like but Revlon doesn't have as many colors to choose from. My favorite wigs have been Noriko and Raquel Welch. I have heard that Jon Renau has some good ones out now. The best prices online have been at Joshua 24 also called, Name Brand Wigs.... but, if you don't know that you like the wig and are trying a new one, I suggest staying with Wigs.com. (The Wig Experts). While they are usually a little higher than Joshua 24 wigs, there is no restocking fee if you return it. I think there is a 20% restocking fee at Joshua 24 so at ANY wig site you go to be sure to read the return or exchange policy. It can make a big difference.

I have 2 wigs from Paula Young from the "color me beautiful" collection and love them; not shiny, etc. Also, TWC (The Wig Company) has a good, quality collection with affordable prices and sales.

I have bought many wigs from Paula Young in the past; they offer good quality, stylish wigs. However, in my experience they are always shiny and of course, each one must be trimmed. I have also ordered from TWC but don't think they have the variety of the latest styles that Paula has; they both offer 3 sizes but not necessarily in every style..Thanks for the suggestion above to use hair spray, I assume you mean wig hairspray?

I have one wig by Raquel Welch, which I wore once to a graduation. I brought it to my hairdresser and she cut and styled it just the way I wanted it. The only problem I had with that wig was that the color was very bright and brassy. It was just a medium ash brown with blonde highlights. To me, it looked very "wiggy"..... I love her styles though. Reading the reviews, I see the same complaints about the colors being too artificial-looking.

Sometimes, I watch Toddlers & Tiaras and when the kids wear wigs, they are doing cartwheels and jumping up and down all over the place and their wigs never move. I wonder what they are wearing to keep them in place like that.

The night I wore mine, I felt like it was moving whenever I turned my head. I know for certain that I could NOT do a cartwheel.......
