I'd be so happy to be transported back to the fifties and live in a kinder, more gentle country.

I hate the period we're currently living in; the political climate, the crime, lack of morality, general lack of respect for others. I don't like anything about it including many technological inventions.

As a nation we've become rude, ignorant, and obnoxious. We tolerate and accept it as "normal". I don't like us.

A childhood free of devices, helmets, safety gear and safe spaces. 😳

While those vehicles look 1950's, we lived in a tight knit suburban neighborhood not that long ago. You knew your neighbor, klatched in your kitchen over coffee and a nosh while our kids played together.

It wasn't by accident. We chose to make it that way.

I love how I grew up. I spent a lot of time in the summers with my Uncle and Aunt. I can remember sleeping in late and by the time I got up it was lunch and my Aunt would cook me a burger and fries and let me eat on a TV tray in the Living Room and watch cartoons....good memories, happy times.

This tender photo wrapped a bow around my heart!!!💝 I was instantly transported back to a time when children were free to play in the neighborhood without FEAR. They were allowed to experience what every child should have; the INNOCENCE of childhood! Everyone looked out for each other, AND each other's children! Those kids did not know the atrocities that were yet to come.😐 Their minds were not filled with thoughts of hunger, homelessness, abuse that unfornuately so many today know all too well!

It would be almost impossible today to see a group of children gathered without at least one of them having an electronic device in hand.😁

THANK you so much for sharing this thought-provoking photo, as it gave me such a comforting feeling just now!❤

As a woman, I would never want to go back to the 1950s.

I believe the same would be said for any person of color also.

We would be second class citizens and devoid of rights afforded to others.

@Mersha - I was not alive in the 50's and I sure would not want to live in the 50's for the reasons you stated.

@on the bay We were young and had no clue what was going on around us. We were blissfully ignorant.

My husband told of when he was young and went to a matinee at the local theater with a friend. An usher came and told the boys they would have to move their seats as they were in the "section for blacks only."

He learned quite a bit that day.

people love to remember the 1950s as such an idyllic time. It was not kinder and more gentle. Looking back,

I would say that many of the indignities and even some crimes perpetrated on others were swept under the rug or glossed over or just plain rationalized. Racial discrimination, in all of its heinous forms, was accepted by white people.
The political climate with our constant fear of Russia, led to dive-under-the-desk drills in school. I was very frightened by that.
All that said, I'm grateful to have had an upbringing that instilled manners, respect for elders and authority, and a clear moral code based on the golden rule

I recall fear and threats being instilled in the children.

I was so upset when one of my classmates was taken out into the hallway by the teacher and paddled for some infraction. You could hear the paddle hitting them and the children crying.

I was terrified that might be me one day. I spent many nights and mornings crying about not wanting to go to school.

and all. Even as a child I was aware of racism and abuse and all kinds of awful things. Still as a child I was able to have mostly a happy childhood, at least 3/4 of the time but also witnessed bloody things and abuse of neighbors, being teargassed and 8 year olds on heroin. So yeah it wasn't all ideal for sure.

So. There we have it.

Now, to me it is like an onslaught of insanity to be honest. Well goodnight all.

Carry on. I'm sure everyone will try to outdo each other in righteousness or arrogance or prayers that have no meaning.

I am not from the 50's, but am respecting each perspective as I read these subsequent posts. ❤👍 My initial thoughts and post were of the innocence of childhood in the photo, the caption, and what it was like many sunsets ago for children.❤ I really did not think in terms of color. It made me feel good just to be transported to what it was like being a child out in the street, playing with friends without a care in the world.👍

I remember riding our bikes ,playing tag,kickball ,baseball ...not a care in the world.....
Has the world changed? Or do we hear about what's really going on ?

I was raised to love one another...as I have loved you ...
I honestly believe we are ALL GODS CHILDREN ....now ,I worry I possibly offend some ...I don't like the way this world is now ....I'm starting to wonder if HELL is on earth...jmo

What are my thoughts? My thoughts are that there was never any "good old days." Some aspects of the past were good, of course, but there were just as many serious problems then as there are today.
