Armed men disguised as Amazon workers storm NY home in terrifying robbery

A group of armed men stormed a New York home this week allegedly posing as Amazon delivery workers in order to catch the homeowner off guard before rounding people up and demanding money.

Police in Newburgh, a suburb roughly 50 miles north of New York City, say the scary home invasion started with a knock on the Fletcher Drive home around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

The person answering the door found a man wearing an Amazon vest and holding a package, according to police. The man said he had a package that required a signature.

When the person inside nudged the door open to sign for the package, police said the supposed delivery man shoved his way into the home and pulled out a gun.

Three more perps, they said, stormed the home with guns and masks.

The team of armed suspects corralled everyone at the home and demanded money, police said. Before fleeing the home, the quartet put everyone down in the basement.

No injuries were reported.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact authorities.

Robbers must have had reason to believe there was something more valuable in the house than there would be in most houses. Drugs? Drug cash?

This had to be a horrifying experience for this family. They were taken off-guard.

I never open my door for people I don't expect, or know. My neighbors are the same.

Unless I knew a package was arriving requiring a signature, I would never open the door to the delivery people, even if they had on an Amazon vest. That could be copied, or even an inside job.

I have always felt it poses a problem, as people don't always show up in a Prime vehicle, instead arriving in their personal vehicles, with street clothing. Who knows who they could be?

Thankfully, there are rarely items requiring signature. We can never be careful enough these days.

Thankfully, I have a steel frame security screen/ storm door. I keep it locked.

If, I answer the door and I usually don't, the caller can't get in. It is a pain to lock and unlock the door to go out to get the mail or pick a package off of the porch, but to me it is worth it.

I keep all of our doors locked all of the time....even the garage door that opens into my kitchen and the basement door. It used to drive my husband and kids crazy, but they are used to it now.

I have a feeling that this was not a random house chosen to be robbed. I'm sure that they had it planned out and knew that there was cash kept in the house. Did they say how much was taken?

It's a terrible & terrifying thing to happen.

We never answer the doorbell. There were a couple of frightening events that happened to others while we lived in the Texas Hill Country that caused us to make that decision. People who know us call ahead.

deliveries are to our back patio room fence and 40' walk to get to door and bright 5000k floodlights all the way can see everything took courses to be able use our way of protection more than 1 delivery person together will be suspect to me

We have a steel door. When we moved in to our house, first thing my husband did was get rid of the door and install the steel one.

If someone gets past our locked farm gate and through our fenced yard, they're met by barking and a 60 pound hound hitting the door. If they get past that, things get really unpleasant with us...... as we are armed. Addiitionally, I wouldn't open my door anyway to sign for a package. The most I do is go to the farm gate and wait for delivery if I want to sign. I guess living in the country is different with different challenges. We have everyone call before they come to the house.

@monicakm Yes, people do keep cash around. If you have an national or local emergency, you might not be able to get cash from the ATM and credit cards won't work.

If the grid goes down or even the electricity or internet, you're going to be out of luck.

Financial experts recommend you keep between $1000 and $2000 cash for catastrophic emergencies depending on your needs or where you live. Some people do it have access to ATM's that are close.

It should be kept in a fireproof safe that is hidden from view.....and you shouldn't brag about having money.

My father stored cash in his suspended ceiling. One time, he called my husband to come and help him ASAP. The ceiling in the dining room fell down on his table and there were wads of money and paperwork all over the place....thousands of dollars.

When my parents passed,we had to go through the whole house because there was money stashed every where...in cupboards in sugar bowls, in pots and pans, in pockets of clothing, in boxes, in shoes, and they owned a safe.

My parents owned a restaurant and lived above it. I am surprised no one ever tried to rob them. They were lucky.

We got burglarized twice after moving to the U.S. It was in Los Angles. Both time we were asleep. I was a child. Now a days they call it home invasion. The first time I woke up and scared off the burglar. My father woke up yelling, I got up and ran into the burglar! That's when he ran back out. The second time I was 14. It was during the night and took my pocketbook which was on the table. Then I realized he took the bag with nothing in it but a tampon! Everyone burst out laughing so hard! I don't think we ever reported that one.....

I suspect there's more to the story. I think they had reason to believe the residents had valuables or a lot of cash in the house. It must have been terrifying. Hopefully they will find the culprits.

But there's need to answer the door since Amazon drivers just leave the delivery.

You can also track your order online, and will receive an email from Amazon once it's been delivered.

I wait until the delivery person leaves to open my door unless it's my regular UPS or USPS person.
