I Cut The Cord

Finally got rid of cable. The representative on the phone was trying as hard as he could to persuade me to stay with Comcast.

I finally did it last year (Feb...been a year...never looked back!) and after I did wished I had done it at least 3 years ago! I have Netflix, Prime, and go off and on Hulu occasionally only when I want to see something in particular...maybe a few months each year. Instead of the $130 a month my cable was going to cost me (had just increased again) to watch NOTHING in recent years. They'd increase and take away channels at the same time!

I was streaming every night on my iPad instead anyway, watching nothing on my cable. I hadn't yet bought a new smart tv, so I couldn't stream on tv anyway...but finally did it all at once last year.

Congrats! You will never look back and wished you had done it even sooner. You will find a world of even free streaming with things to watch you never got to before!

Congratulations!! It took me forever to decide to cut the cable, it's been about 3 yrs, I don't miss it and have extra money to shop with, lol.

@May5 Goodfor you!! I spoke with SPECTRUM this am trying to reduce our $200.00 bill. Even if we go with a lesser plan (channel line up) we will only save under $15.00 because we are in a bundle and will lose the bundle savings if we switch plans.

When the bundle savings come off I will have a litle more leverage but by that time the actual costs will be up...it's a ****** shoot.

What have you decided to stream? If we stick with SPECTRUM for the internet only the cost is roughly $99.00.

I cancelled my satellite service with Directv last month after being with them for over 25 years! But the good news is I just switched to their streaming service for a much lower price. Now I've got to get rid of that satellite dish which is mounted to the side of my house.

My husband and I have been talking about this for years. Just last night I asked him if he was going to call Comcast and negotiate. What we're worried about is internet. Do you have internet and is it Comcast? If so, has internet increased for you since dropping cable?

It's been about 2 years since i got rid of Astound (RCN). Not sure what I have now, but firestick TV thing. When the bill went to $247.00 for phone and cable I had enough. They didn't even try to negotiate. Just told me to bring in my equipment to their location. Now I have T-Mobile for phone and their WIFI tower and the firestick. Not sure what the cost would be now for cable. Sad thing is that almost half the cost is taxes and fees which the cable co. can't do much about. Yes, I prefer cable, but not willing to pay their cost.

Cut mine over ten years ago. Don't miss it. If you can get a few over the air and have somewhat decent WiFi, you are good to go.

Icut comcast cable a week ago. Internet alone was 200 mps for $86 PLUS modem/router RENTAL $14 a month. $100 for the lowest internet service.

My address was eligible for Frontier fiber opric internet. I get 5 x the speed at 1 Gps for a promotional price of $54.00 if i auto pay, includes the FREE modem/router. Free installation.

I had to buy Amazon firesticks for my tvs to be able to connect to internet.

I purchased YouTubeTV subscription promo at $62.00 a month because there are particular channels that Amazon doesnt carry that i like. Omg. YoutubeTv has more channels than Comcast as many of Comcasts were HD duplicates or music/audio channels they counted in my 185 channel plan. I was worried i wouldnt get local channels for news. I get them all except one independent (SNN). I downloaded QVC/HSN+ which is free and can watch all three Qs and both HSNs. Lots of sports but you can subscribe to MLB. I FINALLY get TCM for old movies that Comcast made extra on their sports teir so i couldnt watch it.

My total montthly bill went from $247 to $128. I have kept Netflix but pared that down from $12 to $7 ( that had gone up unbeknowst to me) and I bought Peacoock for $6.00 as i love its on demand, Reelz Channel for On Patrol Live and Peacock original show The TraitorsUS. There is more to explore.

I have free access to streamers Freevee, Pluto, Plex and more than i havent even looked into yet.

More tv than i can watch! I can say "craft " in to my amazon firestick remote and gives me a list of craft shows, including Martha Stewart that used to be on PBS in the 90s thatt I LOVED.

I am very glad ive gotten this figured out. I was going to be the last person with cable...Comcast's price increase in January and not wantng to wheel and deal a better price for yet another year was the time for me to decide. Saw Frontiers promotion, did my research and boom did it. Took my Comcast equipment back to their store the afternoon that Frontier completed installation and cancelled. So glad i did.

Not everyone will need as much as ive signed up for. Compare what is available in your area and for your needs like internet phone etc. I looked in Cnet.com and PCmag.com for comparisins and reviews.

@ScrapHappy I do not have Comcast for anything. AT&T is for my computer. Direct TV is for my TV. It just started yesterday and I will be saving $100 a month.

I'm a dinosaur--have both a landline and cable, neither of which I will give up--and no smartphone. I'm still in the 20th century--LOL!!!

@LizzieInSRQ there are some channels I used to watch that we don't get any longer and I miss the ease of just being able to put a channel number in instead of having to scroll through the guide to get to what you want to watch.

I would still be a 'dinosaur', too. I was forced into dropping my landline phone b/c the phone company wasn't repairing the broken 'wiring'. I had to drop my 25-year relationship with Directv satellite for streaming b/c the cost was too high. I don't own a smartphone and never will.

I was like you. I knew I would miss 'cable' b/c of the same reasons. But I found a streaming service where it's like I never cut the cord. This is the remote for the streaming device I use. You can go directly to the channel you want, no scrolling through the guide and there's other features with this remote:

Directv STREAM...for people who still want the 'cable experience' but w/o the high cost of one. No dish, just an app.
