Getting News is expensive!

It's expensive to get basic local, state, world news.

Used to be we had local news papers and tv stations that had local news about stories of interest. Local TV was antenae or basic cable. We knew about the new school principal, the next city council meeting, the plan for the new library........and the cost was pennies. Small newspapers have died out.

I was reviewing my on line subscription to the Dallas Morning News and the basic is $4/week. Over $200/yr is now in every person budget.

Is FB the new way to get "news"?

I basically use Associated Press and TV station websites for local news. But it is a challenge.

No. Not sure about local/community news but since state/national news is owned by major conglomerates who are obvious about their bias, you'll never get the accurate info anyway. Best to find real journalists that are independant and share the truth. Don't even get me started on FB (aka censorship central).

Depends on what you subscribe; I pay $100 yearly combined for the N.Y. Times and Washington Post. That's a deal and way less than my parents paid for print version of Post ( but they got lots of print coupons).

I don't mind the increasing expense because it is SO important to support local news coverage. Bear in mind, the reporters are paid VERY little (that's why they're young and most move on to other jobs in a few years). It's extremely important to support independent, responsible news coverage. It's usually local news coverage that unveils corruption and also significant consumer issues that would never be brought to accountability were if not for their professional reporting.

Local channels for local news

Cable for Fox and to see that good looking Schmidt

All of your local television stations are available for free Over The Air, with a one time investment in an antenna. Antenna prices have dropped dramatically in recent years and the technology has improved.

I don't pay for news. I do watch local TV news, but read news on the internet for free.

I read liberal and conservative news, impartial/neutral news, foreign news, and even some crazy made up news.

This keeps me aware of what's happening, here and elsewhere.

You're not going to get truthful news by only getting it from one source.

We do get local stations with YoutubeTV.

I absolutely refuse to pay to read an article on-line. I don't care if it's one dollar, I won't pay for it. Most times I can find another way to read it if I really want to know.

Couldn't tell you the last time I watched local news on TV. I get mine on FB. I follow certain news sources and I'm more informed than my sister who only watches left-wing news stations and reads the NY Times, lol. Just sayin'. It's all in who or what stations you follow on FB as to what news you will get.

I'm not a fan of so many papers going digital but I understand their reasons. It mostly has to do with survival.

I think any time a news outlet isn't supported and goes under, it's cause for concern.

I don't watch the news anymore.

We got rid of DISH 2 yrs ago. Have been streaming TV.

We have an outdoor antenna if we need to watch the news.

It's so easy to bypass the news when streaming.

yes, it is expensive, but i would feel a bit lost if i didnt have easy access to numerous daily national, international, and local news sources.......

have xfinity.

get the online AND paper versions of THE BALTIMORE SUN and WALL STREET JOURNAL.

have a number of magazine subscriptions.

listen to local news stations and talk radio in the car of via my alexa device.

have sirius/xm.

and of course, follow a bunch of the major news agencies on facebook, twitter, and instagram.
