CA Governor Declares Drought Emergency

Another day of 85 degree weather. High wind. No rain. Very low humidity. Large fires. No snow in the mountains (which is our water supply). Throw in an earthquake or 2. It's been this way for at least 2 months with no sign of relief.

This heat might sound enviable to people in the Mid-West or back East (and I do sympathize with them), but this is very scary for us in CA. Water rationing has already begun in some areas.

The drought around here has been coming on all year, and before. It's getting serious in areas of Northern California, although I've read it's also happening in neighboring states.

Wishing you plenty of rain (but not too much). If all of us would concentrate and send wishes to you for more rain, it could happen. Last year, I deeply wished rain for the Palm Springs area, and even though they weren't expecting rain at all, guess what......It rained and the rain extinguished the terrible huge fires that threatened their area.

It feels like there is always something going on in my native California -- earth trembling, sliding or raging fires. My family down there is okay. I hope the firefighters stay safe.

It is seventy eight here in Santa Barbara today. No rain anticipated for at least ten days.

There is a cruise ship anchored off shore. The tourists must think they are in paradise. They don't realize how dry and dangerous it is.

Yes Noel, I read the same thing about Northern California. They are saying 2013 was the driest year on record and so far and 2014 might be even worse. No amount of moisturizer seems to help. Skin is almost flaking off.

We just recently replaced plants and flowers in the front of our house with cactus garden to go with our small sago palm trees and it looks quite nice against our short brick wall (hard to describe) but we are dong our part to help .

Just keep wishing and hoping in a very concentrated way. I've always believed that when we stop being 'distracted' and strongly concentrate, almost anything is possible. (It many times worked for the Native Americans.) The secret is to avoid distractions.

When the rest of the country is flooding I wish we could have a pipeline to channel some of the water out to us.

That would be great!!! Maybe divert some of the excess snow back East to our mountains too please!!

I've always thought that it would be possible to divert Alaskan snow/(water) through Canada, and to us, if and when needed. Now-a-days, almost everything is possible, but, well, you know..........not much is thought of and/or done.

Another question is why haven't we built any desalination plants here. Converting ocean water to drinking water would solve problems like this.

I've never put on moisturizer like I do now.

I have a product recommendation for anyone interested... L'Oreal Youth Code - Day & Night Cream. OMG, I've never had anything work like that! I've yet to find the perfect hand cream.

I used to follow rainfall data for the year but I stopped getting the newspaper last year, it wasn't what it used to be. Anyway, if I recall, our average was 22" a year, and I've heard we barely got 9" in 2013.

Probably too expensive.

If I correctly remember, aqua ducts were built hundreds/maybe thousands of years ago. Without tons of machinery, too. Above ground, not really damaging nature, etc. Easy to repair leaks, etc.
