Tired of Running Roadrunner

This roadrunner made his way into a park ranger's vehicle in Arizona. This is a larger center console, but I thought you could get an idea of the bird's size. It seems smaller than ones I have seen. Could be a young bird.

Thanks for the picture! Yes, it is small and so cute! I love them! When I was growing up one would streak across the neighbor's vacant lot between our houses--outside our kitchen window.

You could almost set your clock by him. It was close to 10 a.m. most days. He would shoot by and if you saw him you'd yell "There goes the roadrunner!"

If the vehicle he is standing in is a Durango, is he a Dodge Roadrunner? (Inside car reference).

A lady asked me one day where she could find a roadrunner. I explained the only ones I see are along the side of the highway. They are difficult to find.

A friend of my mothers lived in a rural area. She had a roadrunner who visited her every day. She left treats on her porch for him. One day he left her a treat--a dead snake. I guess he thought she would enjoy it as much as he did.

I used to feed them. We often had nests on our back porch and the babies were cute to watch.

I often would leave our sliding door open slightly for our little dog to come and go outside as she wanted. One day I was walking through the house and casually glanced in the living room and there was a roadrunner sitting on the back of my couch looking out the front picture window.

My husband goes out for walks in Skunk Creek near our house in Arizona and he frequently sees them out and about as well as coyotes.

They can get off the ground using their wings, but do not get very high. Then they glide to the ground. They are not good at flying.

They "fly" a lot like chickens do. Just barely. But they can get up and away from predators in a pinch. Into a tree branch, for example.

Just curious. Do they really "say" Meep Meep (ish)? Or make some other sound?

@candys mine I have never been close enough to hear a sound. Somewhere along the way I learned their sound is a short little almost bark. I seriously doubt I will ever hear one. We will be driving down the highway or a rural road and see one running alongside. They are never close.
